This tax payer funded task was an exploitation of the Secret Service and a government service that we, the common folk do not have available to screen our kid's friends list.
And even more troubling is the fact that Obama likely talks about Top Secret issues over dinner or while watching TV.
What if this “Malia” character is some type of Secret Agent for some other nation and is using her cell phone to transmit Top Secret information?

Why does a 12 yr old girl, with a personally assigned Secret Service security task force assigned to her, who attends a private school - need a cell phone at all?
It’s not like she rides the bus to school, or runs around by herself when she visits her friends. You know, like normal folks ....
What is she talking about? I worry about my kids in a lot of ways, but talking to strangers on a telephone was about the last thing I worried about.
I’d be much more concerned with the internet usage, e-mail and chat rooms and the like; For the phones, I just gave them pay-per-call phones and said they had $5 a month to call home with. It kept them from doing anything much else with the phones.
Of course, now they are older, and pay for their own text message plans. Nobody hardly uses the phone for talking anymore. My son uses skype if he wants to talk to his friends, usually while they are playing video cames on the computer.
No surprise, she scares the heck out of me every time I see her picture or hear her voice.
