(CNN) - Sanford, Florida, Police Chief Bill Lee, who drew criticism for his department's actions in the Trayvon Martin case, was fired Wednesday, his spokeswoman said.
Spokeswoman Sara Brady said Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte made the decision.
Lee had submitted a resignation letter in April that said he was stepping down, but city commissioners voted not to accept it.
In March, he had said he was stepping down temporarily in the wake of the public furor over the failure of the police to arrest George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who has said his shooting of Martin on February 26 was an act of self-defense.
Also Wednesday, the Seminole County Sheriff's Office released 911 tapes of calls placed the morning after the shooting, when police had still not identified the 17-year--old victim. He was unarmed and carrying no identification when he was shot while walking to his father's girlfriend's house after picking up some snacks at a nearby store.
In the first call, Trayvon Martin's father, Tracy Martin, calls police at 8:39 a.m. asking to file a missing persons report, which typically would not be accepted until 24 hours after a person has been discovered missing. "It hasn't really been 24 hours," he tells the police dispatcher. "But I'm from Miami and my son's up here with me ... he don't know anybody up here."

In March, he says he’s stepping down because of the controversy (plus he’s old and needs to retire)
In April he sends a resignation letter. They refuse to accept it.
Now, they (the men behind the politicians and MSM) release the call from the ‘father’ to stir up emotional fury, and direct it at the Chief, whom they ‘unexpectedly’ fire.
I guess the COREY thing wasn’t going too well. Diversions needed.

I am not sure, but I don’t think he has any civil recourse, because he likely “serves at the pleasure” of the City Manager.

Soon after Lee’s resignation was rejected, Richard Myers, the former police chief in Colorado Springs, Colo., was hired as interim police chief. Myers, 57, vowed to be a “bridge builder” with the city’s black community.
Bonaparte has said repeatedly that he would not fire Lee, who has had the job for about a year, unless investigations by the city and the U.S. Department of Justice found civil-rights violations in how the department investigated the shooting of Trayvon.
Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon’s family, declined immediate comment tonight, saying he hoped to gather more details about Lee’s dismissal. Crump decried the commission’s decision to reject Lee’s resignation and said the chief’s dismissal was necessary to “start the healing process in Sanford.”
During an NAACP forum in Sanford last week, Trayvon’s parents appealed to a crowd of about 100 people to press for Lee’s firing and an investigation into the Sanford Police Department.
“You can’t heal with the same people in place,” said Tracy Martin, Trayvon’s father. “If Chief Bill Lee is hired back, the same things are going to happen.”
The people of Sanford lost a good police chief, and their city is now run by the Trayvonistas.
Sanford sounds like such a nice place. I’m planning on spending my next vacation in Florida. While I’m there I can visit Terry Schiavo’s resting place too.

Yes, and the whole “Zimmerman and his wife were ‘SKIMMING’” ploy got shot down HARD here a couple of days ago.
