Approving Billions in Cuts to Social Services, California Reaches Budget Deal (unions safe for now)
New York Times ^ | June 21, 2012 | Jennifer Medina

Just 10 days before the start of the new fiscal year, Gov. Jerry Brown and the Democratic-controlled Legislature reached a budget deal on Thursday to close a nearly $16 billion budget gap. The agreement came after days of negotiations, with legislative leaders reluctant to make the cuts that Governor Brown said were urgently needed.

That the budget met its deadline for only the third time in the last two decades was seen as a cause for celebration, though the spending plan hardly contained good news.

And even more cuts loom on the horizon if voters do not approve Governor Brown’s proposed tax increase, which will be placed before them in November. Besides an array of immediate cuts, the budget includes $6 billion in trigger cuts, coming primarily from the state’s education system, if voters do not back the tax measure.

The cuts already in the deal rely on limiting eligibility for welfare and other changes to social services programs. The deal will put a 24-month limit on the state’s welfare program, although it allows for some exceptions in counties with high unemployment. It also cuts the number of spaces available in state-subsidized child-care programs.

This draconian budget boots poor people off their EBT cards after only two years ... and cuts back on free day dare ... but at least it saves union pay ... unless the $%&#* taxpayers revolt again.

Lets not forget that illegals still get all these services.

And all they have to do is change their name every two years to reset the clock.

It’s a wonderful life.

So let me get this correct.
We the people of California will send illegals to school for free, but people who are suffering are denied services.
We the people of California will support unions and their outrageous pay and benefits but schools will lose art, music and sports.
We the people of California will lose fire and police protection while unions get more crap.
We the people of California will pay increased taxes so the unions can sit on their butts, work half the time for twice the money that everyone else does.
I am beginning to think good weather year round is not worth it.

Yep, you got all that right. Time to get out of that state and move to somewhere there is freedom.

Yep. We can expect the recipients of big salaries, pensions and other benefits from government to continue to live high on the hog while using their time and money to cut food off from the poor (who would be manufacturing products in a country with loyal leadership) in quite a few states, before the debt regime is all said and done.

Then realize that most in the lower echelons of the political/regulator class will be laid off and/or take pay cuts, after bond investors take “haircuts.” Things are going to get ugly.

Some judge will block these cuts and “order” the Legislature to enact tax increases. Watch—its all part of the script.

So as usual the Democrats cut from people such as the mentally ill who actually need government help rather than from those who just want to keep what they have and more.
