I think it's more a matter of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". They think of Islam as a quaint anachronism, rationalizing that it can be easily dealt with later on. But if they were honest they'd admit that they don't touch it because its followers actually kill people! Jurors are there to listen to the evidence and render a verdict based on that evidence, not to determine what pleas a defendant can and cannot make.

A Juror has the power to, and is to, judge anything and everything having to do with the case they are on the jury for. That includes chewing out the judge or prosecutor if that is what they deserve. Not that a judge would ever let you know that or fail to find you in contempt.
