Rally set to protest Arpaio's Tent City
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | June 23, 2012

Posted on 06/23/2012 10:55:48 AM PDT by yorkie

More than 1,000 critics of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio are expected to gather Saturday night for a rally to call for the closure of the sheriff's complex of canvas jail tents.

Organizers say conditions in Arpaio's "Tent City" complex are inhumane.

The sheriff has said he doesn't see any problems with housing inmates in tents and often points out that some members of the U.S. military live in tents.

They ought to have the rally at 3 p.m. You know, to sympathize with the inmates...

Good. Hopefully they’ll step out of line and get to experience the tents up close and personal.

One of the coordinators of this protest is the Unitarian Universalist Association. No surprise there as they were involved in the founding of the ACLU.

While it would probably be nicer if the inmates were housed in buildings, protesting the tents is a ridiculous diversion at this time when the entire USA economy is being shoved down the toilet by the current regime’s anti-business policies... and while our foreign and defense policies, positions are being sold out.
Protesters... why not try to do something about what really matters in this country right now!?

I have very little sympathy for inmates having to live in tents in the desert. During the first Gulf War I lived in tent city in Oman for 9 months. Although, being Air Force, the tents were air conditioned most of the time.

Years ago the sheriff in New Orleans put up tents for the overflow of prisoners. some people complained but he didn’t back down. He informed them that American troops had to live in tents in worse conditions than they could ever imagine.

I lived in a wall tent just like that one during eight weeks of BCT Ft Gordon GA AUG-SEP 67. And it wasn’t air conditioned either.

Tent City’s most famous occupant Sir Charles Barkley served 3 days for speeding under the influence on his way to getting a hummer from a hooker in his own tent in Tent City while the teeming masses had to share a tent . Seems to me there is an inequality of tent distribution

” . . .. getting a hummer from a hooker” ??????

Isn’t that a heavy duty all-terrain military vehicle? Confusing.

I predict that 14 people will show up and 3 of those will wind up involuntary guests of Sheriff Arpaio’s hospitality.

Hummer has an alternative meaning for the reprobates amongst us. Sir Charles was not on his way to pick up a car from his favorite hooker He was on his way to pick up an oral favor from her. At least that is what he told the cop who asked him why he was speeding.

Most of the inmates have not been convicted of anything, but rather are awaiting trial. So, legally speaking, they have not “done the crime.”

Aloha to you, Fish Hawk! (I’ve missed you!)

The rally is set for tonight (Saturday), and I’m betting it is going to be big - REAL big. (And I hope the protestors like ‘camping out’. LOL!

Hi yorkie!

A rally on Saturday night will draw relatives and friends of the inmates who aren’t out partying.

Poor inmates are there for a reason.

“HI”, back at’cha, Dave! Yep - it should be a ‘fun’ watch. Maybe Joe will serve appetizers to everyone attending: ‘green bologna roll-ups’. *grin*

Actually, it won’t be fun. These protesters hate Joe Arpaio, and how he forces the incarcerated to live. I pray there won’t be any violence.
