NBC News is getting hammered in two of the country's biggest newspapers and Keith Olbermann, who had an acrimonious breakup with MSNBC last year, couldn't be happier. The sweet taste of schadenfreude comes in lengthy features in today's New York Slimes NBC News Faces Shift in Television Dominance the Wall Street Journal Wall Street Journal: 'Today' Is Just Part of Slip In the Stature of NBC News on the network-wide ratings decline at the Peacock's flagship news programs. On Twitter, the liberal anchor, made sure no one missed out on the news.
The two reports, by Bill Carter and Brian Stelter of The Times and Keach Hagey and Christopher Stewart of The Journal, both home in on the ratings dips of NBC's the Today show, which briefly lost its number one slot in morning-show ratings for the first time in 16 years. But The Journal gets the numbers that really matter: "[Today] collected $485 million in ad revenue during the 7 a.m.-to-9 a.m. time slot in 2011, up 6.6 percent from 2010, according to Kantar Media. Good Morning America took in $299 million last year, down 4.9 percent from 2010." Elsewhere on the NBC News lineup, Meet the Press is regularly getting beaten by old man Schieffer at CBS News' Face the Nation, and NBC Nightly News is slowly losing ground to ABC World News and has lost huge swaths of its coveted 25-to-52 demographic. In short, it's a wonderful day for NBC's best known, unemployed, disgruntled former employee.
As his Twitter fans took it as an opportunity to bemoan his departure ("We miss your voice on cable," said one "If they made you even a regular panelist on MTP, the ratings would triple," said another)

Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. -H. L. Mencken.
It seems H.L.Mencken got it wrong.
For far too long the MSM has been underestimating the intelligence of the American people and like Pravda and its ilk to none-to-soon be relegated to the dustbin of history.
Memo to Olby’s Army: Keith is gone from ESPN, Fox Sports, MSNBC, and now Current, because he eventually gets tired of dealing with the idiots. But of course, if there were a network out there owned, operated and staffed solely by Mensa members, and he got hired by it, he’d still end up leaving because he was tired of dealing with the idiots.
He does have a point (even if it's on his head): by now, anyone who'd hire him would be an idiot.
Not lookin’ for a fight or anything, but the American people elected Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton... TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and now OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The sub-human filth known as the demofilth have controlled the House for something like 55 of the last 70 years.
The American people are unimaginably ignorant and stupid on a level that can scarcely be grasped by the human mind.
nbc vs ko...when I hate both sides, who to root for.....
Olbermann is too stupid to realize that the leftist propaganda from him and his ilk is what led to NBC’s downfall. If NBC had tried to be an actual news outlet instead of a RAT propaganda ministry, going so far as to creat MSNBC solely for the purpose of attacking conservatives, they wouldn’t be drowing in red (fittingly) ink.
I actually kind of miss Queef. His arrogance, self-absorbtion, and mental illness made interesting viewing, especially his constant stream of carrer-ending gaffes, which would have killed any real journalist’s career years earlier. Only a network which tolerates the likes of Schultz, Sharpton, O’Donnell, and Maddow would have him in the first place, and even they finally couldn’t stomach him any longer.
Okay, true.
2Brains are indeed better than 1.
The masses are indeed a$$es.
A PARROT is infinitely more Intelligent than Obama, Pelosi, Reid, NBC NEWS, MSNBC, CNN and Olberdouche’s mental capacities combined! Nuf Said!
A parrot is more likely to know what it is talking about too.
I'm hoping that there's a way for both of them to lose.
The American people are unimaginably ignorant and stupid on a level that can scarcely be grasped by the human mind.
I'm not looking for a fight, either and don't totally disagree with your comments. However, the American people get their news (and often their opinions) from the MSM and the MSM has tilted left for decades. They have only recently abandoned all pretense of objectivity and gone into full leftist PR mode, to the point where normally tolerant and politically apathetic Americans notice - and are turning it off.
As for elections, Carter won in '76 because the media had hammered Nixon for years over 'Watergate'. Worse yet, the petulant Nixon was guilty of most of what he was accused of. His hapless replacement, Jerry Ford, was doomed when he pardoned Nixon and the weak economy finished him off.
George H.W. Bush was a RINO and was foolish enough to raise taxes based on budget-cutting promises of a Democrat congress. They lied - but Bush lost. In addition, the media was in full PR mode for Bill Clinton and Bush's feeble campaign was no match for that. What really 'elected' Clinton was the sour-grapes independent candidacy of billionaire Ross Perot who took 19% of the vote and gave Clinton a plurality - and the presidency.
The '96 presidential campaign with 73-year-old Bob Dole (a RINO, of course) as the GOP nominee was simply pathetic and Dole never had a chance. After all, Clinton has charisma. All that Dole had was a very honorable WWII record and a long, relatively distinguished (by Beltway standards) senate career. No contest. Yes, the voters were ignorant but they were spoon-fed Clinton puff pieces by the media. This was before the internet (and FR), conservative talk radio or Fox News existed. In effect, a different world.
Obama rode to victory on a totally fabricated 'life story', looking good in an expensive tailored suit, not sounding like a revivalist black preacher and lying his face off, ably assisted by a MSM that shamelessly pimped his candidacy and a GOP opponent that basically phoned it in and effectively conceded the race in October. Even with all that, the poser Obama won by only 3%. Enough to make his victory unassailable but hardly a mandate, although you wouldn't know that by the way he has 'governed'.
However, the 2012 election is a new ball game. Obama's shiny image is tarnished, his 'historic' '08 election is old news. His record in office stinks. He's desperate and getting more so with the Fast and Furious scandal, his problems with the Catholic church on contraceptives and of course, the 800-pound gorilla in the room, the sluggish U.S. economy. This guy has never known anything but praise and a free ride. Now, the ride is crashing and the narcissist Obama doesn't know how to handle it and neither do his close advisers. Mitt Romney is no Reagan or even a conservative but he's light-years better equipped to be president than the feckless Barack Hussein Obama. Although the voters may be ignorant on some levels, the bad economy has made many Americans a lot more interested in this election - which doesn't help Obama. The MSM is still influential but no longer omnipotent and will not be able to offset the grim reality of Obama's spectacularly failed presidency. On election day, Obama will lose.
‘The American people are unimaginably ignorant and stupid on a level that can scarcely be grasped by the human mind.’
Just like criminal defense attorneys they want a dumbed down populace. Why do you think the dems are vehemently opposed to school vouchers!
Your defense of the pig-dog American voter boils down to “the media.” You are correct—the media is composed of sub-human filth who hate America more than bin laden and who cannot ever be trusted in any way shape or form at any time for any reason, period. But... only the dumbest f’ing thing that ever lived on Earth (American voter) could be fooled by the media for the last 50 to 70 years. Yes, 99% of the reason we have democrats is the media. Period. But saying “The US voter isn’t dumb; it’s just that in the middle of a death match with Islam, Katie Couric told the US voter that a marxist kenyan muslim who hates America with a passion is just a regular Joe, and America believed her,” is hardly a case against stupidity... It’s PROOF of stupidity. There is NEVER ANY REASON to vote for a democrat, the party of Obama, Clinton, Michael Moore. I don’t care if Nixon was raping and torturing puppies on the White House lawn, he is a BILLION times better than ANY demofilth who ever breathed, and if the US voter doesn’t know that, it’s becuase the US voter is a moron.
“However, the American people get their news (and often their opinions) from the MSM...”
In all the entire history of the universe, is there a better proof of stupidity than that??!!! The very essence of stupidity.
Very well thought out and written-I do take some small issue with:
“What really ‘elected’ Clinton was the sour-grapes independent candidacy of billionaire Ross Perot who took 19% of the vote and gave Clinton a plurality - and the presidency.”
I think Clinton’s magnetic appeal to women & blacks was a far bigger factor than Perot.
Your apparent hostility toward the voters than put Obama into office is shared by many, including me. The media is one obvious reason why Democrats get elected when they always work against the interests of Americans and our nation but there are other factors, too, including the aforementioned laziness along with a ruined education system, etc. That noted, I believe simply screaming that American voters are stupid doesn't get us anywhere, even if you believe it. I see that as an over-simplification of the problem. However, as I stated in my original response, I'm not looking for an argument because I feel the same hostility toward the Democrats (and their media lackeys) that you do and besides, it's time for dinner.
Grilled burgers for me tonight. What about you?
