Tarheel trainwreck: The coming DNC disaster

There aren’t Greek columns tall or wide enough to camouflage Barack Obama’s impending North Carolina catastrophe. In September, the campaigner-in-chief will travel to Charlotte for his party’s presidential nominating convention. For once, the incurable jetsetter may wish he had stayed home.

Obama’s stage managers envision a triumphant, unifying coronation reminiscent of their 2008 DNC production in Denver. But the southern swing state is turning into a Democratic disaster zone.

Start with the North Carolina Democratic Party. At the state party convention last week, Obama for America was AWOL. The glaring absence of high-level national Obama surrogates was noted “as odd,” according to the Charlotte Raleigh News and Observer. There’s good reason to steer clear. The party is embroiled in a sordid sex scandal that won’t go away.

Personally, I am in favor of the DNC being as entertaining as possible. For this reason, I think some well heeled Republicans should subsidize one way bus trips for hundreds of OWS type radicals to go there to show their support.

And *steenky* homeless people, and inner city “yoots” to attend a free rap concert, and have security provided by the Hells Angels *and* the Mongols *and* the Outlaws *and* the Pagans *and* the Sons of Silence Motorcycle Clubs.

Tea Partiers should be able to get tickets to Obama’s event at BOA Stadium and the Motor Speedway. It would be great to harass the heck out of him.

But you need ID to get in. Those without ID will be disfranchised. /sarc

I would seriously advise Tea Partiers to stay away from the DNC, as the whole area is going to be filled with low life, criminal scum, prostitutes, drug dealers, anarchists hoping to right, arson and loot, with a huge dollop of the just plain violently mentally ill people of all kinds.

It will have much the same rules as a low intensity riot, and there is no good to be had going there. Low reward and high risk.

There is going to be a huge police presence as well, and in such circumstances they can be injudicious as to who they attack, if and when they attack.

The best bet would be to try and figure out where the action is going to be and set up hidden cameras out of easy reach. Then if you get some good pictures of rioters, you can forward them to the appropriate police agency.

I am struck by the sheer stupidity of holding the Dem convention in the heart of ‘Bitter clingers to guns & religion’ people.

Charlotte is the very heart of NASCAR country. A number of teams are headquartered there.

This could be a really big popcorn event.

Outside of having a death wish, the only reason I can think of is if it is a swing state perhaps they thought it might have an influence.

I don't think the NC folks will be impressed with Roman columns though. /sarc

The democRats are insisting the bus terminal be moved far from Charlotte uptown. Too many poor undesireables end up in town with it there.

Nobody knows how workers are going to get to the hotels to take care of the elites attending the convention. I guess they’ll have to hitchhike.

Charlotte is a typical big city...the city itself is heavily Rat, the suburbs are Republican.

They’re trying to repeat Obama’s win here in NC in 2008. It won’t happen. The only reason he pulled out a squeaker here was a massive black turnout, and he won’t get that huge a turnout again.
