GMOs should be safety tested before they hit the market says AMA

The American Medical Association called for mandatory pre-market safety testing of genetically engineered foods as part of a revised policy voted on at the AMA's meeting in Chicago Tuesday.

Currently biotech companies are simply encouraged to engage in a voluntary safety consultation with the Food and Drug Administration before releasing a product onto the market.

Some activists concerned about foods made with genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, had hoped the association would have gone so far as to support mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. But some still view the policy change as a major breakthrough.

...On Tuesday, however, Monsanto spokesman Tom Helscher would not say whether or not the company supports mandatory pre-market testing, only that the current voluntary consultation process “is working,”

These are the same people who took homosexuality OFF the list of deviant behavior.

THEY should be looking at food? They’re too busy looking at their private parts.

Lets see, how intelligent are these wonderful group of doctors?

They want testing of genetically modified crops.

They must have been attending the class on extracting more dollars from the public via commie care when the class on how ALL plants cross pollinate and can spontaneously create a genetically modified crop via mutations.

So are these vultures going to demand ALL crops be tested for safety as they are constantly modifying themselves?????

Like my SIL who is a doctor, once you get them out of their comfort zone of what they have been taught, they are dumber than a box of rocks.

Part of the health concern may be use of bt -toxin, as a pesticide inside of plant. It is showing up in blood samples.

The world is full of “natural” toxins in plants and new mutations occur naturally.

They can spin this anyway they want but the wonderful doctors are going after human GMOs as doctors are a major part of the liberal left in this country which hates anything from the private sector.

So if their concern is pure and not just more leftist interference with out lives then they should be demanding testing of every crop, every year because they change all the time.

ex-Monsanto people are in the FDA helping to set policy of GMOs. There has been a big push back from the company to just labeling foods. If it is all good, let testing back it up.

Would like to have a choice, and transparency in the food we consume.

I agree. If it's safe, why are they afraid of labeling?
