2012 S.F. Pride Parade: pride and progress

If the older generation is looking for the reward of 40 years of gay rights struggles, they need look no further than Keighley Petersen.

The soft-spoken, 15-year-old wisp of a girl from Pittsburg was at her first Pride Parade on Sunday, marching with a small gay youth group amid the usual throng of flag-waving politicians, leather daddies, gay military veterans and glitter-bedecked disco queens.

"I feel like I'm home," she said. "I've been bullied a lot for being gay. ... They keep saying it gets better. I used to think they were just saying that, but seeing all this, I think maybe they're right. I think it does get better."

I don't see where "Pride" fits into all of this but that could just be me. The issue of middle aged fat men dressing up as nuns is getting old. If they want to be cutting edge they could satirize Islam and its prejudices against all things gay but that would take courage.

They are praising Vice. There can be no pride in vice—evil, nihilistic, selfish behavior.

These sickening Vice parades are vulgar and demeaning and reduce man to rutting animals with no meaning and purpose-—no God, no Design in Nature—no reason and logic. Just irrational animals.

No, it's not just you. I also don't understand the "Pride" that a person has for a certain sexual tendency. Why should anyone see THAT as a source of pride? I'm not proud that I'm hetersexual - it's just my preference. Pride in that you don't eat meat? Pride in that you prefer broccoli over peas? Where does this false pride stop?

Used to be that pride was about accomplishment and/or effort. But then nowadays, pride is all about social teachings that instill false self-esteem for the most mundane of reasons.

Tried on the exam but failed, you get an A for trying. I guess the multitudes of prisoners who take pride in their criminal activities are justified in their beliefs, according to this logic?
