Supreme Court won't hear Mt. Soledad cross case

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday it will not hear an appeal of a court ruling that the Mount Soledad cross in La Jolla is unconstitutional.

The decision likely means the fate of the cross will eventually land back in federal court in San Diego.

The constitutionality of the Mount Soledad cross in La Jolla has been litigated for more than two decades.

In January 2011, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the cross sent a message of government endorsement of religion and was therefore unconstitutional. However, the court left open the door for other legal alternatives to be found that would not necessarily mean the cross, which is on federal land, would have to be removed.

One man, San Diego resident Steve Trunk, said he was offended by the cross and that is how we got here.

What happened to the solution proposed 20 years ago that would sell or lease the land to a private group so that the cross could remain standing?

It is going to be one ugly scene when the bulldozers come to tear that cross down. There will be thousands of people there.

However, if it’s a big crescent shaped monument in Pennsylvania, it’s all a-okay.

The Christians in this nation are going to have to join to take a stand in objection to these sorts of things.

We’re the vast majority of this nation, and get kicked in the teeth constantly.

I’m out of ‘other cheeks’.

I’m on the verge of going postal on these filthy collectivist scum. If that cross needs bodies in front of it, I’m there.

We really are in the midst of a culture war.

Why is this ok? Its supporters say because it represents 'every religion'. I know it's not about religion, and I also know it's more offensive to more people than is a cross. I find it offensive. Will anyone care?

Come on all of you christians. Hire some Muzzies & I doubt the first guy & his bulldozzer would take that step as unlikey to see his family that night. Not the christians. The 1000 will passively stand around all the while everything they stand for become rubbish. Now you understand why America is toast.

http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/datastore/opinions/2011/01/04/08-56415.pdfm ~ not just one nut case, but a bunch of jews dissatisfied with the way WWII turned out ~ to wit, the Jewish War Veterans also oppose the cross. I doubt there’s a resolution possible in this century.

As they tear down one cross, those thousand people build two more. And as they tear down those crosses, those thousand build four more. And as they tear down the four, eight appear.

And so it will be negotiated that one will remain...

Honestly, IIRC, this trip to the SCOTUS is good news, actually, it lets stand the original option to lease/sell the land to another group - it was sent to the SCOTUS as the plaintiffs felt this was simply sidestepping the whole issue of the cross, and the SCOTUS declined to play ball.

If he is offended by a cross we can show our support and concern for his feelings by destroying a cross on his front lawn. How to do it? Hmmmm. How about burning?

Same thing happened in Poland at a place called Nowa Huta. Commies resisted the Catholics erecting a cross where they hoped to build a church. Tore it down at least once. A cheeky fellow named Karol Wojtyla gathered thousands of people to face them off. Didn't hurt that most of the police were Catholics, too. Peaceful resistance! Use creativity!

I’m glad I’m not an attorney or a judge. They baffle me to fits of rage with their incomprehensible conclusions.

That's different - there are things murderous soviet communists won't do.

There are no limits to what murderous liberals will do.
