JFK, for all his faults, in addition to being a combat war Vet, came from a generation in which Love of Country was the overwhelming default sentiment. Yes, things began to change for the MUCH worse during his presidency, and he is to blame for a lot of that.
Additionally, he clearly loved HIMSELF more than his country, and for that matter, more than his wife and children as well....
That's a genetic issue. All the Kennedy men seems to have that problem.
