I love Texas! My son and his family live in Webster, right outside Houston. My saying is if it’s not in Houston, then it’s nowhere. They have everything you could want. There is one drawback though. The property taxes in Texas are pretty high. They don’t have a state income tax, but they make up for it with those property taxes. They do have good schools, but if you buy a house around $250,000, you have to tack on at least $500 a month or more to your mortgage for property taxes.
Don’t forget the Franchise Tax— imposed for the privilege of doing business within the state of Texas— on business owners. Lots of people show up here and set up shop without prior knowledge of it. Still, overall, it’s among the least regulated *state* business environments as you’ll find, so if you don’t do business with the Fed govt then you’re not unduly encumbered here by regs, fees, and taxes.
