The Odds Overwhelmingly Say That Obamacare Is Finished

As the Supreme Court prepares to hand down its decision on the Affordable Care Act on Thursday, the only market offering its prediction thinks its key element will be ruled unconstitutional.

The Ireland-based InTrade market has the odds of the Supreme Court overturning the individual mandate at 75.5 percent as of this post. Here's a look at how it's changed over time:

Intrade

The odds spiked into the 60-percent range after March's oral arguments were deemed a disaster for President Barack Obama and his signature piece of legislation. The only time it had climbed over 50 percent was in December, when the Supreme Court decided it would hear the case.

Intrade has been an inaccurate predictor before. For example, Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry were, at one point, better bets than Mitt Romney to win the Republican nomination.

The odds of overturning the individual mandate by next year are even greater, according to Intrade:

When Roberts sides with Federal pre-emption on immigration, then I’m not so sure

Yep, he is showing all the signs of being a squish who hides behind caring about the “legitimacy” of the Court than rendering decisions which may be upopular in the DC cocktail set but are, nonetheless, well rooted in the Constitution.

I think Obama is hoping the court shoots it down. Politically it would help Obama more than it would hurt him. I don’t think Romney would lose support not Obama really gain any support. But I do think that for political reasons he secretly hopes the court shoots it down so he can use the issue to rally support from the far left.

If the court upholds ObamaCare it would do the opposite. It would be more beneficial politically for conservatives in 2012.

But what shenanigans is Obama going to unleash on Thursday afternoon? THAT’s the real question now.

Launch air strikes on Damascus?

Hopefully we will have a good day tomorrow.

I think between the House and the Supreme Court, we're going to have an exceptional day tomorrow.

I also expect a clean, bi-partisan, non-threatening, unbiased, politically correct statement from Mitt about these momentous events.

Well to be fair to the Court, Congress isn't doing its job either. They haven't passed a budget in how many years? By rights they should be holding impeachment hearings on Obama over a number of violations of his oath of office. Announcing that he'll not enforce federal immigration statutes when it comes to Arizona being just the latest infraction. Starting an undeclared & unauthorized war against Libya being another biggie.

I'm reminded of Stalin's retort when told that the Pope disapproved of something. "How many divisions does the Pope have." The Court can rule, but if the Executive fails to enforce (& Congress does nothing), then where are we?

23 times. I think that’s a record.

The same problem existed on Slashdot. It was fixed with two small software changes:

  1. A hash of each comment was calculated and stored for a while. Duplicate posts (such as several POST HTTP requests) produced the same hash and were rejected. This took care of multiple identical posts (such as the user hitting reload, or double-clicking the form submit button.)
  2. No user can submit more than one post per unit of time. Currently /. uses several minutes, and that's too much. But as little as 30 seconds will take care of the user making a small change and resubmitting. This eliminated posts that are nearly the same.

I sure hope so. I'll believe it when I see it though. Even with the conservative Justices I've seen some pretty lame ruling come out...
