Minnesota Vikings Punter stands up for marriage equality
NFL News ^ | June 28 2012 | Brian McIntyre

Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe has never been afraid to speak his mind. . .

Kluwe's preferred avenue for speaking against injustices has been on Twitter, where he'd post white board drawings and messages to get his point across.

The 30-year-old punter now is taking a more direct approach, standing up for marriage equality in Minnesota, which has a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages on the ballot this November.

"Someone (from Minnesotans for Equality) contacted me on Twitter and asked if I’d be interested," Kluwe recently told Outsports.com. "I said yes. I’ve always believed that people are inherently the same and should have the same rights and equal protection under the law. It really doesn’t matter what you do with who or whom as long as you’re not infringing on someone else’s rights. Everyone should be free to live their own life however it makes them happy."

Kluwe, who had a hand in writing the ads, adds that his brother in-law is gay, but is unable to wed his partner because it's illegal in California. Kluwe said that his relationship with his brother-in-law, however, was not a factor in his decision to speak out against the amendment.

. . .

With the exception of New York, which has around 70 players on current NFL rosters, none of the states that allow for same-sex marriages are major producers of NFL talent. Considering most of the NFL players coming from states unlikely to pass such ballot initiatives -- or have already struck down -- that may factor in the inability for a gay player to come out during his career.

Years ago the Bears had a long time punter that was contracted by an aquaintance who was big into his kid’s youth football league to make a speach in front of their year’s end banquet. So this football player gets there and he is the biggest fag in history and the guy I know blocked him from speaking, because this punter was the biggest faggiest lisper of all time.

Why, is he wanting to marry a boyfriend?

Ha. ;)

Well I think what is going on here is just how uncomfortable gay advocates know they can make people when asking them to come out in support of “marriage equality”.

Notice they are calling it that, not “same sex marriage”: By putting the “civil rights/equality” spin and tag on it, they put people on the spot, and they must have done their research and known Kluwe had a gay brother in law. All very strategic. I almost feel sorry for the guy.

Standing up for “gay marriage” is no longer a courageous stand. It would have required courage to publicly support traditional marriage.

You are right on that one. They pretend it is some act of bravery and individuality to come out for same sex marriage, when it is really just following the herd mentality at this juncture.

It’s getting to the point where if you don’t scream from the top of your lungs that you support “Marriage Equality”, you will be labelled as homophobic....Just keeping your opinions to yourself won’t suffice anymore.

Exactly. Very nazi-like. Toe the party line or get labeled a ‘homophobic hater’. And many , I think, are baited into voicing their support.
