June 29--CHAMPAIGN -- Patient advocates are celebrating the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold the basic provisions of the Affordable Care Act, but a local insurance executive warns it will likely result in higher coverage costs for those under 45.

Ingrum also said the law narrows the gap between what younger and older people can be charged for coverage.

"So, insurance rates for the younger people between 18 and 44 are going to go up dramatically, while rates for people over 44 are going to go down," he said.

Of course those between 18 and 45 are heavily laden with 1%’ers! It’s damn hard for me to feel sorry for the young kids who voted for Obama, they are getting their payback. The only problem is it will take most of their life for them to dig out of this mess.

In Massachusetts most of the few kids I do talk to know they are getting porked. They see their tea hers as low watt losers, schools as joke babysitting compounds. They vaguely know they are the generational dump for olders debts, that they will not have the income or credit to own a house and have the privilege of paying for town pensions. I’ve been surprised at the few knowing a bit about the Fed.

IDK what insurance costs in most of the US, but in several states that have had most of the ACA provisions already set as state law, such as NJ/NY/MA , a 30 year old single male will be spending ~$190/month for barebones ObamaCare with Rx, and ~$235/month for ObamaCare Plus with Rx.

The penalty fees are definitely the way to go for healthy younger people since you can no longer be denied for pre existing conditions and you can sign up AFTER you fall ill/get sick.

Pay for an annual check up out of pocket, pay the IRS penalty, in 2016 that’ll be like ~$950ish if the checkup doesn’t perform too many blood tests.

On Redeye Radio last night, they talked about the changes that were being implemented at their company, vis-a-vis their insurer.

Deductibles for a family of four are going to be about $4k-$6k a year before they hit the co-pays. Although, the company is setting up pre-tax health savings accounts for the employees.

That means for a family of four with a household income - up to 10% of their pre-tax income will be going to healthcare ...

....an minimum of 10% of their pre-tax income will be going towards healthcare insurance premiums.
Factor in the amount the employer pays, and it's actually a bit over 20% of pre-tax income.
No actual healthcare will be “covered” by the insurance company, untill the additional 2K-6K cash deductable amount is met and/or exceeded each and every calender year.
No medical provider will quote any price for their services, unless you first tell them which insurance company “underwrites your healthcare needs”.
If you intend to pay cash in advance-charges will be doubled (contrary to basic economics)
Unless you have two or more insurance policies, you have no ability to “shop for the best value” for that 2K-6K amount.

Payments made to Walk in Clinics with posted fees for routine care, are generally not considered amounts that apply towards your annual deductables.
