When I was in school in the 70s, there were no bus monitors, no teacher-assistants, no police officers in the school, no grief counselors, no searches for dangerous nail clippers or aspirin .

Your comments also reminds me of an article I read years ago where a person was showing off the design and security features to another of a newly built public school. The persons response to this was it reminded him of a minimus-security prison.

I went to a school like that in the 70s. It was a perfect cube, with one entry door, a few fire escapes, and slit windows. This was in South Texas, and I think it was supposed to be a model of energy-efficiency!
