When President Obama said Thursday that he didnt pursue health care reform because it was good politics, he wasnt kidding.
Over the course of its short life span, the Affordable Care Act has left a trail of political wreckage behind it and while an exultant White House breathed a sigh of relief in the wake of Thursdays Supreme Court validation, Obamas signature policy achievement still faces a host of questions ahead. First among them: Does the party really want to embrace a measure that proved so costly to Democratic candidates in 2010 and polls so poorly?
While the Supreme Courts decision upholding the law provided the president with a major victory, the trickle-down political effect isnt quite so obvious. Put another way, for down-ballot Democrats in red or purple states, the politics of health care still arent so good.
With Thursdays defeat, Republicans were handed a powerful tool for motivating their base and a fresh ammo clip for use in House and Senate races across the map. It removed one arrow from the Democratic quiver the prospect of an outraged and highly motivated base and provided a new one to the GOP by defining the mandate as a tax.
Some version or another of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnells floor remarks Thursday in response to the ruling is undoubtedly already being scripted, soon to appear in 30 and 60-second spots in competitive House and Senate races across the map.
The Supreme Court has spoken, McConnell said. This law is a tax. The bill was sold to the American people on a deception.

What does GOP-E mean? I missed out on the exlanation somewhere.
And Happy Fourth, Navy Patriot. My dad was a tin can sailor during WW2 and a veteran of Iwo Jima. Go Navy!
I prefer staying put and changing leaders.
It’s more work, but it’s worth it.
GOP-E means GOP-Establishment.
This is a perfect storm for them. They went all out against Obamacare but lacked the numbers to be successful. Then, in one of the most inexplicable decisions in history, the Supreme Court upheld the law.
Now, they can campaign against it, knowing they’ll never have the numbers to overturn it. If they win the majority, they’ll be in position to reap the benefits of controlling healthcare and the economy. If they can’t gain the majority, they can continue to blame the Democrats.
Win-win.
BULL!!! Have we already forgotten! It was only a few days ago that EVERY conservative in the nation just KNEW that obamacare was going down, the mandate was GONE and a few provisions MIGHT be left over but those would be easily dealt with. Intrade, pundits, prognosticators and even most liberals thought that obamacare was finished.
And we haven’t learned a damn thing. Here we are doing the same thing again. The conservative base is really pissed off and energized. We’re going to win, obama is on the run. THis is going to be a landslide blah, blah, blah.
If you look at my post a couple days before the decision was release i said that I had a gut feeling that something was going wrong, partly because EVERYONE was over confident. it reminded me of the old say that if EVERYONE agrees, something must be wrong, and indeed it was.
I’m not going there again. I don’t want conservative being complacent again. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE THIS ELECTION. If we do the only next logical step would secession. And I honestly believe that.
We have from now until November to work our asses off and that’s it, no mulligans. We cant afford to take time to look up. We’ll look up after the election to see the results.
Obama and Bidens BFD is now a BFT. I can't wait till Nov.
RINO posturing aka hogwash.
Those sites are all too much interested in fund raising than they are in doing the right thing... that is pointing out the untruths and fallacies in the present administration. Obama started lying on the first day of his administration with EO 13489... actually, the lying started long before then, but America was too stupid to see through it, and too busy being politally correct. Don’t blame Bush...blame McCain.
It means the GOP Elite ruling class, inside the beltway (the DC society view of America), big government is good, opt for statist unlimited government power, oppose limited government and specified delineated government power types.
I’m with you and there will be a silver lining in this huge storm cloud. Obumble has spent all his time pandering to people with no $$$.
There is now a chance for everyone who will get screwed by this decision to rise up and make sure we overwhelmingly kick these liberal bastards out of office.
GO SUPER PACS!
Since we’re soliciting out-of-state money, Sean Bielat is running against a Kennedy runt in MA4 could use some help. He gave Bawney Fwank enough of a run for the money that Bawney bailed. I think he has a chance in the redistricted 4th.
