Corporate America thinks providing healthcare to workers as part of its benefits became to expensive over time. Someone in the healthcare system has to give. Drug corporations will not, health insurance corporations will not, hospital corporations will not, the lonely small business doctor will have to become a salaried worker. Main Street vs Corporate America and lobbyists made sure Corporate America comes out on top. Doctors you are lucky that you will still have a salary, blue collar and office workers had their jobs off shored. At least you did not end up in a service industry with 1/3 less pay.

Our healthcare problem in the US started when healthcare became tied to employment during WW2 as a result of govt wage controls.

As soon as we disconnected the payer from the service by inserting a third party, costs began to escalate.

Not until the government builds a wall around America.

Doctors will just leave and go to a nation that allows 'em to make a good living.

While the doctor's pay plummets and their expenses skyrocket, the trial lawyers still have year round open season and no limits.

Good doctors will go offshore...the US is making the practice of medicine (at least the kind that is preventative or actually curative) exhorbitantly expensive. I know...my husband already had surgery for something in MEXICO because the FDA doesn’t yet allow it here, yet...they are just getting around to looking at it....(Europe and Canada do allow it also.) Obama care is just MEDICAID expanded to EVERYONE once the cost of medicine skyrockets because of shortages and rationing. And, Medicaid is bankrupt (paid for with tax revenues and the issueance of debtor bonds) Those who can afford it will go elsewhere...and get better care. CONGRESS is the PROBLEM here...they have screwed America with their “programs.”

I've worked with many MDs who simply dropped the practice of medicine and turned to a life of software engineering. The business costs writing software are less than practicing medicine. In many cases, the cash flow is better. Most doctors are smart enough to make the transition.

80% of what you pay for healthcare is paid out in lawsuits, most of them frivolous.

Cutting anything else won't help cut costs.
