No, really: Obamacare is a tax

Read my lips. No new taxes.

Those were the famous words spoken by Vice President George H.W. Bush at the 1988 Republican convention upon his acceptance of his party's nomination for president. The words came back to bite him.

Two years later, dealing with budget deficits, Bush broke his pledge and increased taxes, including a 5-cent-a-gallon increase in the gas tax. And despite his soaring popularity after the successful invasion of Iraq (Operation Desert Storm) to free Kuwait, the American voters in 1992 turned against him and denied the senior Bush a second term. Instead, the voters elected Democrat Bill Clinton.

Clinton and James Carville, his campaign guru, used Bush's anti-tax pledge against him in a highly effective television campaign blitz, and the senior Bush was history. The voters decided that Bush had broken his promise.

You can’t claim “no new taxes” when your party doesn’t hold the House (where taxes USED to originate) for a day in your term.

No Republican president between 1955 and 1995 had a Republican-controlled House. That includes twice elected Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, plus Eisenhower and Bush 41.

Yep daddy Bush ( and his son was just as dumb) thought giving in to the constant pressure by the democrats to raise taxes would be OK and then they stuck it to him ---But still bush lost because of Perot not because Clinton or Carville was so smart

It's a tax when we want it to be a tax, and not a tax when we don't want it to be.
It's a baby when we want it to be and not a baby when we don't want it to be.
