Romney Campaign Declares Cease Fire on Health Care.

July 3, 2012 Romney Campaign Declaring Cease Fire on Health Care Posted by Staff

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court health care ruling, the early conventional wisdom was that an unfavorable health care ruling at the court would be good for Republicans politically, even as it was a serious policy setback for conservatives. But that's not shaping up to be the case. Mitt Romney, after giving a brief statement decrying the decision, has been virtually silent on criticizing the health care law. He's been on vacation and his campaign has been giving off clear signals that it doesn't want to make health care a major part of the election.

His senior adviser, Eric Fehrnstrom, went on MSNBC Monday and ended up agreeing with the Obama campaign's spin that, even though the Supreme Court declared the individual mandate a tax, it really still is a penalty. Significantly, his campaign appears to want to take the most potent argument against the president on the health care subject off the table, likely out of fear the Romney himself is vulnerable when it comes to his health care record. He, after all, supported a mandate as governor of Massachusetts, and doesn't want that to be considered a tax, either.

I believe all of us who were supporters of Newt or Santorum said such during the primaries. Romney is the worst candidate to put up against Obama because of his own health care record in Mass. Now it is coming to fruition. Hate to say “we told you so” to the Repub. establishment, but “we told you so”. But, sad to say, I don’t think they really care.

(shrug)
Romney is still the same old cowardly milquetoast he’s always been. Is it possible that anybody is surprised?

It reminds me of the Bob Dole campaign in 1996. A Clinton appointee judge made a horrible ruling that let a couple of dug dealers go free. The case made national headlines temporarilly and the dole campaign pounced on it. Pointing out what terrible judges the Clinton administration was putting on the bench.

The Clinton campaign responded, pointing out how Dole, as leader of the senate, went out of his way to help fast track the nomination of this judge, among many others that Clinton wanted. And that if Dole didn’t like them, he was in the position to prevent their nominations going anywhere.

That completely shut up Dole and his people on clintons judicial nominees for the remainder of the campaign.

True, that is, but it is the Romney way to take the high road and let his surrogates do the dirty work.

Will those waivers stand up in court?

Attacking ObamaCare is simple in a way that really would not reflect on Romney:
1- the way the Democrats passed it, it steals freedom from citizens
2- it is a huge obstacle to fixing the economy
3- Democrats over the years intentionally broke healthcare so they could take it over

Mitt needs to stay on message.

Bad economy, high unemployment, unbridled debt.

Anything else is a distraction.

Obamacare is not the only issue. When the jobs numbers come out on Friday the economy will be front and center again.

I never said this was anything other than opinion. But look at the facts Kennard. Your guy took the DAY OFF after the ruling. He should have been out there screaming from the rooftops on behalf of our country’s freedoms.
Add to this his tepid response to the ruling when he did make a statement the day of the ruliing.

This post/thread is not meant to suppress conservatism. Laura Ingraham has been nauseating pro Rom. for months. What she is trying to do, and rightfully so, is shine light on the mistakes being made by the Romney camp...SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE A COURSE CORRECTION.
Mittens is getting bad advice.
He should hire Walker’s campaign staff...NOW! ...and figure out a way to address HC without being so worried about being attacked for Romneycare. How is anyone’s guess...but remaining silent is cowardly and not gonna win the election for him.

I believe the waivers, as given now, are unconstitutional because of the 14th amendment. However, if the waivers are applied equally, then they would be.

Right after the swearing in, he sits at a table and signs several prepared documents. It would take all of five minutes.

That wouldn’t have mattered. The economy was great in 1996.

If we just agree with the democrats than we won't have these bi-partisan conflicts anymore!

Not sure he doesn't want to discuss Obamacare....

I think he wants to nuance the mandate. This ruling really stunned them. They were expecting it to be passed on commerce clause or rejected. Not ruled a tax (which hits him relative to Romneycare).
