Team Romney: No, we’re not declaring ‘cease-fire’ on Obamacare
Washington Examiner ^

Posted on 07/03/2012 12:09:58 PM PDT by Perdogg

In the days since the Supreme Court decision upholding Obamacare, some Democrats and commentators in the press have suggested that Mitt Romney is declaring a “cease-fire” on the issue and will no longer make it a centerpiece of his campaign to defeat President Obama.

Because I’d rather die like a man than live like an unprincipled coward.

You explain to me how a conservative can vote for Romney without abandoning his conservative beliefs to do so and I vow right here and now to campaign HARD for Mitt Romney on FR and everywhere else.

Further, I’ll apologize to everyone here, state I was wrong and help you get a liberal elected to the highest office in the land.

With a smile.

Deal?

This is an open invitation to you, Levin, Laura any freeper and anyone else on the planet.

You want him elected so bad? Then answer that one question honestly and factually and without resorting to “The other guy is worse” and I will devote myself to helping you.

Sometimes I think you’re absolutely right. There seems to be a Star Chamber where candidates are chosen for victory and defeat. We’ve seen some very dumb things - Perot, Dole, etc. Who didn’t realize they were throwing the race?

I was talking to the old black lab, Bubba, a while back.

He seemed to understand me. At least he didn’t argue.

It has become and remains a mystery to me why a site that’s supposed to be conservative spends far more time niggling around sniping at our nominee than supporting him.

It’s like the old movie line The only way to win is not to play.

Bottom line, I don’t want 4 more of Obama either. But if we continue year after year convincing ourselves that ‘next time’ will be different/better et all, when the GOP has no intention, demonstratably, of going along, we have to stop playing the game and take the pain.

It’s going to suck but ‘change is never easy’.

ros, let's give folks here a link to Hayes' article.

Romney isn't doing well for himself. He can call it an 'unconstitutional penalty' all he wants, but whatever he chooses to call it - it is extremely unpopular, and his own state socialized medical care is an unpopular wreck beyond belief that is costing him dearly in his attempt to become President.

All the romney bashers need to explain how a conservative can allow Obama to win re-election without abandoning his conservative beliefs.

Romney is advancing multiple conservatve position well to the right of Obama - on abortion, on immigration, on marriage, on taxes, on budgets (Ryan), on Obamacare (repeal vs implement), on national security, on energy (pro-pipeline vs anti-pipeline).

It’s bizarre, there are a lot more reasons/ differences in favor of Romney vs Obama compared with Bush v Gore. Romney is running more conservative than Bush was in 2000 and Obama is the most leftist president ever.

Norm it does. You asked how could a conservative vote for Romney. Obama is the only answer to that question.

We’d not be having this discussion if the sitting President were a conservative would we?

Paranoia. He won’t need as much as he thinks. Besides, if Romney is sticking his feet in his mouth already, can’t wait until he starts shooting them too in the next four months.

Yes or no?

I see. Well, you're correct in that your question is simple, but I reject its premise. One need not abandon Conservative principles at all in voting for Romney. You're looking at this wrong. If that's all that's preventing you from opposing four more years of The King, understand you can be secure in your beliefs and still vote for Romney as well as the most Conservative person running in every race you may cast a ballot in. Defeating The King will send a message to Romney that the people reject socialism and all the fixins! He'll get the message. Not opposing The King is just not acceptable. Don't make it any more complex than it is.

So your answer to defeating liberal policies is to elect a liberal.

some Democrats and commentators in the press

That says it all.

We're being played by a well-timed and orchestrated divide-and-conquer disinformation campaign. And from the various threads on FR today a bunch of us fell for it. Rather than directing our anger at Obama and the Dems, we've been firing off in the wrong direction ... and on each other.

The Dems know that we don't have a lot of confidence in Mittens, and they've now shown that they know how to take advantage of it. As much as that lack of confidence may be deserved, that's between us and him/his campaign.

This sort of thing is going to happen again and again between now and November. Because it works. We have to figure out a way to hold Mittens feet to the fire, but without caving in to petty Dem manipulation tactics.

If we stopped electing liberal republicans 20 years ago, we’d have a conservative president now. So if we stop electing liberal republicans now, we might have a chance of electing a conservative one eventually. If we keep electing libs and playing the GOP musical chairs game, we never will.
