Back in 2009 and 2010 a number of them befriended me because regardless of the 2008 disaster the GWBush invasion policy was still seen here by most as patriotic and I was unashamed to point out how many problems it caused us .
So this one over enthused ~ 50 Paul bot ...babe was a Serbian American and we became friends but she rejected me eventually because I couldn't accept Paulisms as Gospel.
After being suckered by GWB, I approached each new 'conservative' Savior with skepticism and don't just take positions on issues just cos someone else said so.
So this Serb babe Paulist was trying to convince me that ALL drugs must be legalized, because the laws and enforcement are worse than the drugs.
And with pot there is an argument worth debating.
So I pointed out that crack and crystal Meth produce zombies out of human beings. Zombies who we take care of. Why would I fight to legalize those? I told her to see what those people are like and what it does to their families.
Boom, I am out of the club. You just gotta be an absolutist these days.
Mary Jane stinks, I smell it in my hood all the time, no one bothers to hide using it anymore. My brother in LA says during the gay pride parade people were passing out joints in the street, right outside where he works on Santa Monica Blvd.

However crack, meth, heroin, PCP, if that crap is legal say hello to a 500% increase in petty crime, violent crime, traffic accidents, and ER’s overflowing with ODs. Imagine, Pfizer making meth and selling it in Walgreens! I’m not sure the hippy drug people would like that. Total insanity. Maybe I agree in principle you should be able to “take whatever you want” but practically takes precedence, hard drug users violate the rights of others.
On the intervention issue I’ve taken a hard turn toward the “non” side since about 2008 when I realized Iraq was a disaster and the Taliban still existed after 7 years. I remember as a teen being against Kosovo and agreeing with Bob Dole’s “democrat wars” line on NAM. After 9/11 I was hardcore neocon, even after I learned that movement was started by former leftists.
In an ideal world I’d like to overthrow every government I don’t like. But I learned this does not work in the real world. Especially when you have idiots leading the efforts, the government can’t do anything right, least of all waging war. Ungrateful locals also for the most part don’t want our help. We give Iraq democracy and they soon elect Shite extremists.
When we do intervene it must be swift and decisive like Gulf War 1, no occupations of hostile territory. We should have crushed the Taliban and Al Qudea into dust using whatever means necessary (collateral damage, too bad) and then gotten the hell out of there with a promise to return and do it again if we’re messed with.
If you don’t or can’t do it right, then don’t do it.
Assassination is an alternative I like. The regime in Cuba should have been handled in that fashion as soon as the Soviet Union fell. Send the CIA in to recruit some General to take over and set up a capitalist government and then off the Castro brothers and their top flunkies.
In some cases though some a-hole dictator is the best we’re likely to do. Assad is an a-hole murderer, but who takes over if he’s ousted? Something even worse, in all probability.
Like everything the Paulbots take it too far. Attacking Israel with the same talking points as Hamas.
There is a lot of middle ground between neocon and isolationist peacenik.

This is my problem with libertarians. The fact that we have to pick up the tab for the crystal meth addict zombies is a small problem to them compared to the right to get high on anything.
Their plan is : let it be easily available then when the government goes bankrupt supporting all these addicts we can demand that government just let these people die, but lets not talk about that second part now as its not popular with the kids.
Instead demand that libers do it the other way round, to cut the freebees off first then later we can talk about the right to smoking crack.,
I have long since had it with plans that everyone knows will fail.
