Roberts 'wrote both sides of US health care ruling'

WASHINGTON — Chief Justice John Roberts flipped late in the game on the Supreme Court ruling on "Obamacare" and ended up writing both the majority opinion and most of the opposing dissent, sources said Tuesday.

Supreme Court experts described the move by Roberts, whose decisive swing vote to uphold President Barack Obama's overhaul of the failing US health care system, as unprecedented.

The ruling on the reforms, Obama's signature domestic policy which aims to provide insurance to most of the 50 million Americans who lack it, was written in such a way that one can tell it was at first rejected, they say.

“Most likely Roberts was paying back Obama for the amnesty executive order. It’s not just Mexican children illegally brought into the United States the EO covers.”

Now that’s an interesting thought that I hadn’t heard yet!

“While investigating Roberts’ life, the New York Times was accused of attempting to unseal records detailing the 2000 adoption by Roberts and his wife of two infants born in Ireland[6] via a Latin American country.” Hmmmmm!!

Maybe the threat of investigating his children and the adoption process portended problems for him. Maybe something else. Threats? Threatend Pelecan Brief scenario? Who knows? What manner of evil is beneath the democrats and Obama? I cans think of none.

Roberts should resign.

overhaul of the failing US health care system

We get the best health care in the world.

You want to see the health care system fail, you just watch now.

The FIRST thing that's going to disappear is medical research. Companies aren't going to be able to profit from it and govt is gonna dump it cause they got other $$$ priorities.

The govt will NOT be in the research business. They're going to be too busy worrying about what medicine we are allowed and what medical procedures we're forbidden.

Especially their political enemies.

I have practiced surgery for 30 years. The problems about to visited upon the public has only been murmured. Now that health care is free, people will show up at the doctors office and demand to be seen. The receptionist will tell them they can get on his office appointment in 5 months. But, but, they will say, but I have obamacare. Then they will be directed to an already strained ememergency room...Now that it is free, that person who would have thought twice or three times before doing that will have absolutely no hesitation to present to get what is their right. AND...if we have a real flu epidemic, the ERs will strained beyond their ability to adapt to the inflow. That means everyone, those with legitimate insurance, those with medicare, those with medicaid and those with obamacare. Everyone will pay the price. Everyone will have diminished health care delivery. Payment will be made by pregnant mothers precipitating in the ER or cab or in the hospital parking lot. Medicare patients will be denied care based on age, bodiy habitus, extant chronic diseases that they have been living with for 25 years...go home with this pill....maybe it will help you. I have lived and moved through these departments of hospitals and I can see it as clear as crystal what is on the horizon, coming at all of us. Once the entitlement mentality kick in full throttle the whole system will collapse. I really think this is their goal. Then they will resurrect a system of totalitarianism more oppressvie than what obamacare is.

I remember that comment. We were talking about the significance of the dissent remaining unsigned. Looks like you had it right. Good job!

Roberts has to know his peers and most of the country despise him now. I cannot believe that he did this thinking it would stave off criticism. And based on the red eyes and visibly unhappy manner when reading the decision, followed by his comments a day later about hiding in an impregnable fortress, I think he knows what he did is disgusting and he hated it. I think he did it anyway because he was threatened.

I know you’re right and it scares the heck out of me. I’ve got a feeling the liberals are going to use ObamaCare as a form of population control and a way of “culling the herd”.

I think Roberts said during his confirmation hearing that he would be like an umpire calling balls and strikes. Yup, he called it a ball... AND a strike at the same time. Crazy stuff. Some people have called for Roberts’ impeachment over this, which would be pointless with Obama in the White House. If Romney wins in November, we should call on Roberts to resign. He knows he caved to political pressure. He knows he’s not up to the job. He has to be bothered by his conscience right now. Resigning and letting Romney nominate a capable Chief Justice would be the best thing he could do for his country.

And why him, why wasn’t the pressure on Kennedy or the others?

Obviously, he's the one they had the dirt on.

It’s becoming pretty clear things are rather out of sorts now at the SCOTUS. The fact that Kennedy - who is a moderate justice - was apparently so upset over what went down over this is quite telling. Your theory also makes sense about the unsigned opinion - certainly Scalia would not shy away from signing his name to a dissent - Kennedy, Scalia, Thomas, and Alito collectively decided to present Roberts’ own opinion as the dissent to show their collective disrespect for how all of this played out and keep it unsigned as to not identify any of them as a potential author.

If all of this is in fact the way it is starting to look by speculating on all of these tidbits of information we are getting, Roberts needs to resign as he clearly is not acting in the way a jurist should act. If this is all true, he has failed to not allow outside pressure influence his opinions as a judge and instead acted as a politician to please editorial boards and columnists, and certainly failed as a leader of the Court as its Chief. It is difficult to believe that any of the justices on the court could respect or trust him from this point forward if he acted this way - even those who agreed with the outcome.
