” - - - conservatives are not united again.”

Not so. Obama AND Romney have united us against Bolsheviks,Socialists, RINOs, Traitors, etc.

The problem is that the Inertia of our rotten political system has a lag time that is out of phase with the political reality of today.

Nominate a Real Republican Conservative and Obama loses in a LANDSLIDE.

Remain loyal to the Godfather of Obama”care,” and Obama wins by 10 %.

BTW, secure Might Mitt Romney is going to the Olympics this month. Might as well, as he damn sure has given up campaigning, unless his exciting stlye of watching paint dry is counted.

” - - - I choose not to participate.”

That is one of Romney’s favorite tactics too.

OK,

Here are some upsides for Romney (mostly they are sound management/fiscal conservatism - he’s kind of liberal/libertarian on social issues).

-Over 800 vetoes on the Democratic legislature in Mass.. he vetoed in-state tuition benefits for illegal immigrants and opposed driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants. He vetoed an attempted moratorium on any new charter schools.

-Supports the Hyde Amendment, which broadly bars the use of federal funds for abortions.

-Taking the State budget from deficit to surplus.

-Turning around the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, in the aftermath of 9/11.

-80% success rate at turning around failing businesses
while with Bain Capital.

Looking ahead, what he is proposing for the nation, is different from what he ran on in Massachusetts (he pretty well honored the socially liberal/fiscally conservative platform that he ran on then/there).

Romney’s website says that he:

-Will appoint an Attorney General who will defend the Defense of Marriage Act.

-Believes that life begins at conception and wishes that the laws of our nation reflected that view. But while the nation remains so divided, he believes that the right next step is for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

-On his first day in office, Mitt Romney will issue an executive order that paves the way for the federal government to issue Obamacare waivers to all fifty states. He will then work with Congress to repeal the full legislation as quickly as possible. (He told us this at CPAC as well.)

-Mitt Romney will treat regulatory costs like other costs: he will establish firm limits for them - Impose a regulatory cap of zero dollars on all federal agencies, and require congressional approval of all new “major” regulations.

Notice how starkly different Romney’s platform is from Obama’s so far. Notice how starkly different they have been in their fiscal management results (polar opposites). Objectively, you must admit that there is a significant difference between driving the nation into bankruptcy at a record rate (Obama) and turning around a State budget deficit into a surplus (Romney). Paul Ryan and the Wall Street Journal have supported Romney’s economic plan.

Although Romney has no foreign policy record to assess objectively, his platform/positions are pretty well strong on defense and promoting liberty around the world. We know what a disaster Obama has been and will be.

My take is that Romney makes the electorate an offer, and honors it if elected. He was upfront in Massachusetts that he would allow liberal positions on homosexuality and abortion (which the electorate wanted), and would deliver fiscal discipline (which was clearly needed). I think that Romney is now offering the wider nation a relatively more conservative contract, but still one that is focused primarily on fiscal management. Obama, on the other hand, is lying his ass off while undermining us as fast as he can on all fronts. Always has, always will.

Obama must be defeated.

Horse hockey to all that. The man is a statist just like Obama.

Proof: His on-going love affair with RomneyCare which is the same as ObamaCare and is pure usurping statism.

He also shares Obama’s love for bailouts, TARP, stimulus spending, and increasing the debt limit and says it’s all good and that more will be needed.

The man is a purebred statist.

Statism: The theory or practice of concentrating economic and political power in the state, resulting in a weak position for the individual or community with respect to the government.

Vote straight conservative!!

Statism is the enemy of liberty and must be defeated!!

Lemme see now, Socialist (partial control) Romney will give the States temporary exemptions for Communist (total control) Obama”care,” which will morph in 3 years into Communist Obama”care,” which will then in another 4 or 8 years morph into Hillary”care.”

Tough, tough tough. Wow. Which type of eventual Communist Slavery should one choose? Timing is everything! When does one follow Nancy Reagan’s advice and just say NO? I better watch the movie RED DAWN again for clues!

BTW, this “choose what type of slavery you want” is one of the many questions that will NOT be raised at the 2014 Article V State Constitutional Conventions, well, unless Romney gets DUMPED, of course.

WELL SAID!

Very impressive! Thank you!

It is indeed refreshing to hear reasoned debate.

Each of your points were well stated and without the cheap, verbal abuse/humor? that yours truly is prone to needlessly add. ( No apology here from me, as my feeble attempts at humor keeps me from using, shall we say, the more visually expressive “French”).

There are many points on which Romney needs to make more clear, and one of them is his plans if he is going to just replace Obama”care” or ABOLISH it FOREVER.

“- - - - one that is focused primarily on fiscal management - - - - “ is also one of my concerns. If Romney is just to plant posies on the lip of the Financial Cliff, then the Rule of 72 says that with even modest US T Bond interest inflation, the USA will be without T Bond Buyers during Romney’s watch.

Romney”care” or Obama”care,” it is just two very similar ways to eventually destroy America.

” - - - we do not make this election about fiscal conservatism - - - “

BINGO! that IS the most important issue of thie Primary and National Campaign and NOBODY talks about it.

Good luck on getting Mighty Mitt From Massachusetts to say what he would do in his 59 steps!

BTW, aren’t there 12 steps for a spendaholic like Romney? Read that somewhere - - , but where ?

I just can’t get my head around “just like” Obama.

Deficit is just like surplus?

A successful career as a business turnaround specialist is just the same as being a lifelong communist agitator?

Being considered too conservative for the 2008 Republican nomination is just like voting to the left of every Democrat in the Senate, and to the left of avowedly socialist Bernie Sanders too?

An American Conservative Union rating of 88.98% (as of 2010 covering over 9 years) for Romney is the same as a rating of 10% for Obama’s tenure in the Senate?

Would the myriad Republicans in a Romney Administration be just like the freak show of the Obama Administration (e.g. Kevin jennings as “Safe Schools Czar”).

It is like an aphorism in politics that if you will only work with those who agree with you 100%, you will be alone. Forming coalitions, especially coalitions with over 50% of the population needed to win elections, you will of necessity include a range of positions on a range of issues - many shades of grey. To my eye, there is a Grand Canyon-wide difference between Romney and Obama.

I have listened to Romney at CPAC and the NRA convention, and he has advocated free markets, individual liberty and the greatness of America and its constitution. Not the same to my ear as Obama’s crypto-Marxist code words, race and class baiting, or back-handed references to God and Country. And Obama would not be caught dead in those same venues.

Obama in reality is far out on the much less than one percent fringe of American politics, but his ilk have been honing their disquises and lies since the Rosenberg trials and the McCrthy hearings. A wolf in sheeps clothing.

Obama must be defeated.

On a personal note, I’d like to say that it has been an honor for me to have a discussion with you (weekend is over for me - time to get back on my head). I have been following since the Clinton impeachment, in a low-profile way, and got to shake your hand at one of the rallies back then. I greatly admire you for your strength of character and for what you have achieved for this country. You have made a truly outstanding contribution. For what it is worth, you have my highest respect.

God bless you.

Thanks for the inspiring Reagan clip on socialized medicine. What a blessing Ronald Reagan was. My wife and I will be visiting his library next weekend for the first time.

It is eery how the very same strategies to impose socialism were being attempted decades ago. These bastards never quit. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

At different times, they got the Heritage Foundation, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney to buy into individual mandates. Whenever they have enough power they will foist more on us (like when the the Mass legislature overrode eight of Romney’s vetoes on Romneycare).

I guess that we just have to stay in it for the long haul, and beat them back as much as we can, as far as we can.

Obama must be defeated.

“I know the SCOTUS healthcare decision settled it for me.”

Amen, bro’.

“Now we can either deal with it or sit it out...everyone’s choice.

But for me...Romney is better than Obama.”

I totally agree with this statement, and agree with your entire post.

Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts. They are, always, worth a look-see, and are more colorful than most. ;o)

You have NO idea just how much I agree with you. However, what is the alternative? I’ve not yet seen you express that, though I’ve not been here very often, and generally avoid these threads like the plague.
