SHOULD MITT ROMNEY BUY WHAT TOM RATH IS SELLING (Rath Gave us Souter)
Powerline ^ | July 5, 2012 | Paul Mirengoff

The Washington Post reports that Mitt Romney plans to fortify his communications and messaging team by adding some veteran operatives. However, Romney apparently has no plans to change his inner circle.

As longtime senior Romney senior aide Tom Rath put it:

.....................................................

Rath was instrumental in David Souter’s elevation to the Supreme Court.

.........................................................

But Rath’s own words show that he didn’t make a mistake. Instead, as demonstrated below, he promoted Souter for the Supreme Court knowing full well what kind of Justice his old friend would be.

One of Romney's inner circle is the man most responsible for pushing Bush the Elder to nominate David Souter knowing full well he would join the liberal cabal on the court but not telling anybody in the Bush administration.

Getting another Bush like President is the ceiling with Romney and you mentioned it makes one sick. This New England RINO cabal is going to be the ruin of the GOP.

You know what I think. I think that the GOPe is going to name Bloomberg as our Republican nominee in either 2016 or 2020 (depending on results of 2012) and FREEPERS are going to praise and love Bloomberg (like Romney) because he is not running as a democrat. Romney is a horrible candidate for conservatives but some FREEPERS don’t care. Principles be damned.

Although Souter’s reliably liberal voting record came as no suprise to Rath, it shocked conservatives. Had Rath honestly informed the Bush administration what he “thought [Souter] would be,” it is inconceivable that Souter would have made it through the vetting process.

Or maybe Rath, Warren Rudman and GHWB all got exactly the kind of justice they wanted for Bush's first nominee to the Supreme Court, and they all kept quiet about what they expected of Souter.

I don't buy it that a president, with all the resources at his disposal, cannot thoroughly vet and learn the judicial philosophy of potential nominees. The Dims are certainly able to do it. Many thought the little known Souter was a stealth candidate to help overturn Rowe v. Wade. In retrospect, a strong case can be made that he was a stealth candidate to help uphold Rowe v. Wade, from a Bush president who had always been pro-abortion, from a family of mostly pro-abortion members.

Yup. Any watered down version of a Republican is good enough for them, as long as he/she is not a Democrat. All about winning and they don’t care how you get there. Now quiet and take your medicine..:).
