The parents of a 17-year-old girl they say was coerced into prostitution knew that her pimp was in San Francisco but chose to take the law into their own hands rather than call police, a prosecutor said Friday.
New evidence in the case in which the girl's mother, father and two other men are charged with murdering 22-year-old Calvin Sneed of Compton shows that the June 4 shooting was more a revenge slaying than an effort to protect a young girl, said District Attorney George Gascón.
"I think when you look at the level of premeditation that went on, the planning that took place, the fact that other people were brought into this event, I think the evidence overwhelmingly supports the argument that this was not just a crime of passion," Gascón said. "This was really a conspiracy to commit murder."
Defense attorneys claim the girl's father, Barry Gilton, 38, and mother, Lupe Mercado, 37, vainly tried everything in their power to get authorities to end Sneed's exploitation of their daughter in Southern California earlier this year.

I’d still like to know on how they got caught.
Nullify...
Good for the parents! Hope the corrupt system doesn’t railroad them.
What was their crime?
Littering.
Compton’s in southern California, not the Bay Area.
They actually did seek help from the police more than once, Gascon is lying through his teeth.
The cops blew 'em off.
When the pimp got dead, Gascon simply assumed they had shoved incompetence in his face instead of taking a knee with "thank you, may I have another sir?"
So he searched all the phone records. He has date, time, location and number called but no transcripts, so he made up the scenario to fit.
All the same, I know that they will be severely punished and those who are supposed to protect and serve us will be smugly proud to have put them away.
What I find amazing is that the feds just “happened” to be taping the area that they used to give the gun to the shooters. I guess Big Bother really is watching everywhere now days.
Also, I don’t buy into this whole thing, their daughter was free to leave anytime she wanted from the sounds of it in the article. Sounds like she liked to hang with thugs and one thing led to another (most likely a drug habit that had to be paid for) and she’s walking the streets. This is typical of “runaway” teens, they leave home for a reason and are not interested in returning as they develop a taste for the streets. My bet would be that she hooks up with yet another “pimp” fairly soon and tells her parents to F off.
It certainly is, and the pimp was slightly injured in the So cal shooting (N Hollywood), and shot dead in SF.
I don't know one way or the other, but I distrust reports in leftist MSM justifying pimping.
Because she was 17, it is irrelevant as well. The cops could easily arrest the pimp on that fact alone, but they didn't bother.
There you go with common sense, again.
Rendering police and prosecutors irrelevant.
This pimp was also a gang leader. If I was on the jury, NOT GUILTY!
Since the parents are in jail, it is most likely now. Also the girl was 17 and underage. What would you have done if it was YOUR daughter? Thye cops and all other agencies they tried to get help from told them to pound sand.
The article says first they didn’t appeal to authorities, and later says they did repeatedly.
Earlier reports I read said they tried in vain to get police to help.
Sometimes, police force, if you won’t step in people take things into their own hands. The failure is YOURS.
“My bet would be that she hooks up with yet another pimp fairly soon and tells her parents to F off.”
My bet, too, but until she turns 18 it is up to the parents to protect her from ALL her idiot decisions.
I’m surprised that no one has noticed the ironic byline on the article.
Sometimes, police force, if you wont step in people take things into their own hands. The failure is YOURS.
Sort of reminds me of Obama and Holder prosecuting Arizona for taking the law into their own hands and doing the federal gubmint's job after they FAILED to do it themselves.
