Observations from a guy in his 60’s...

I remember my college days where people competed to come up with the weirdest arguments just to test their debating skills. It seems that supporting goofy suppositions has been the norm ever since, political correctness being a prime example. Prior to the 60’s, rational thought and common sense held sway. Since then, the goofier the proposition, the more the zeitgeist attempted justify it. A culture as successful as the one we used to have provided so much leisure time that we lost all concept of that which is ultimately the most important, freedom, liberty and the rule of law. Most people alive today have never experienced anything other than “plenty”. They can’t imagine it’s absence.

We are experiencing the easiest existence ever enjoyed by man, the longest life expectancy, air-conditioned comfort, surplus food...and listen to us bitch.

...and, of course, the statists just see a need to control us for our own good.

Which brings to mind my favorite C.S. Lewis quote:
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

Clive Staples Lewis was a genius!
