Six U.S. Troops Killed in Eastern Afghanistan Blast
ABC News ^ | Sunday, July 8, 2012 | Luis Martinez

Six American troops were killed in a roadside blast today in eastern Afghanistan, a U.S. official told ABC News. Details about the deadly incident remain vague.

Earlier today, a press release by NATO’s International Security Assistance Force said six ISAF servicemembers “died following an improvised explosive device attack in eastern Afghanistan today.”

The nationalities of the victims were not identified because “it is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities,” the statement said.

A U.S. official confirmed to ABC News that the six killed in today’s attack were Americans, but did not have specific details about the incident.

the military announced a few weeks ago that it wouldn't be making a big deal out of a death here or there, so to speak....

another proof of our corrupt moraless SCM.....

the media is supposed to be the ultimate antagonist to a crooked and evil govt....and yet, now their all against us....

Why are we still in Afghanistan?

These fine young men are getting killed for nothing.

We have a real invasion on our own soil - illegal aliens. Restoring our own sovereignty would be a worthwhile fight.

It would have been better if the media had reported how many socialists the Bushes put on the high court.

RIP. This is so sad. And Obama repays their service by hounding , persecuting and jailing them for killing—Lt. Behena__or punching—court martialed SEALS—the enemy. I am sick at heart.

We aren’t allowed to kill the sob who is planting it. He might be a “farmer.”

I don’t understand how IEDs still do so much harm. If I were President, this would be priority 1 to come up with some technology to stop this menace to our troops.

If the terrorists plant hundreds of pounds of high explosives in an IED where up-armored or armored vehicle is expected to travel, no amount of armor will save them if it goes off underneath the armored vehicle.

However,

"US Troops Score Win Against IEDs in Afghanistan

Jul 06, 2012

WASHINGTON - Almost afraid to say it out loud, lest they jinx their record, U.S. troops in Afghanistan achieved one small but important victory over the past year: They found and avoided more homemade bombs meant to kill and maim them than a year ago, thanks to a surge in training, equipment and intelligence.

Bomb-planters have picked up the pace during the summer months, planting improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, along roads or footpaths. But the explosives are no longer the leading cause of death and injury in Afghanistan.

In the first three months of this year, only 5 percent of the bombs planted across Afghanistan hit their mark, according to Lt. Gen. Michael Barbero, director of the Pentagon's Joint IED Defeat Organization. That's down from 10 to 12 percent over the same three-month period a year ago. ...."

My future S-I-L just returned from Afganistan last week. Prayers for God’s mercy and protection were answered. Now my daughter doesn’t have heart palpitations when the phone rings.

At the same time Hillary Clinton, speaking for Obama, declares Afghanistan a major non-nato ally. As Afghanistanians kill our troops, they are the allies of Hillary and Obama!

Are you trying to say that the media and the Dems really didn’t give a damn about our military and were only doing it for political gain? Surely you jest. That would be so shocking if true. /s

Americans don’t seem to die in Afghanistan while Obama is in charge; only “NATO troops” die. This is Obama’s troop surge, too; no GW Bush fingerprints on this...

Most Americans don’t even realize that Americans are still being killed and maimed over there. Now that my son is over there many of my friends and neighbors have admitted to paying closer attention to Afghanistan because they know someone over there and they are shocked at the constant number of deaths.

As a parent of a soldier, my heart grieves for each family, mother, father, brother, sister, cousin, etc. of each soldier who’s life is forever changed or ended this day. I come home everyday hoping against hope that there will be no Black SUV’s in my driveway with uniformed Army officials waiting to greet me, but I know that every week, some family is having to suffer through that very thing.
