Exit to where?

There was an article over the weekend on Drudge about a *carbon tax* on funerals in Australia. Singapore? That is a control freak’s dream of a society. New Zealand? They can and do go totalitarian on a regular basis.

I don’t think there is anywhere left to go. And for those high wealth individuals who do emigrate/give up citizenship, the US still demands taxes, nearly in perpetuity.

Most countries demand a minimum of $1M in order to live there permanently, plus they demand job creation and often prohibit the emigre from working in their new country of residence. Some will accept anyone with a guaranteed US pension of $12k/year, but those are definite 3rd world places. Many island nations prohibit outright land ownership by expats. Land can only be leased and taxes can and are increased overnight if they so desire. Marriage to a native citizen can be a way around that, but one would need to be sure the new spouse isn’t going to ever divorce them.
