Pardon, please, my ignorance. Why is it called “bath salts”?

Truthfully, I have been under the impression that the “bath salts” cited in some other news stories here were actually bath salts. Duh! Help.

Bath salts are chemicals fashioned into designer drugs for snorting up the nose.

They are called "bath salts" and labeled as "not for human consumption" simply to skirt laws for things ingested.

As bath salts, they are sold legally over the counter in convenience stores and head shops. They have nothing to do with baths or salts.
