1.) The best he might hope for is that NAACP members don't fear him -- and so maybe will be less inclined to get out and vote for Obama in November. So if he gave a good speech, and nobody threw anything at him, he did well.
2.) I think it's a reasonable strategy if Romney is keeping much/most of his powder dry. It's early July, who is focusing on an election in November? Besides hard-core political junkies, and Republican ads directed at us would be preaching to the choir.
But I think people are paying attention already. I know on Facebook there is a lot of talk about the election. I fear the undecideds are only hearing Obama’s side of things at this point and may tune Romney out by the time he decides to campaign.
