David Dewhurst Campaign Alters Taxpayer Funded Website to Cover Up Past Support for Amnesty.
RedState ^ | July 11, 2012 | Erick Erickson

What else is he hiding?

Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst’s Senate campaign might have just crossed a line it should not have crossed. Who else would be behind the Lt. Governor’s taxpayer funded website for his Lieutenant Governor’s Office suddenly deleting the transcript of a speech proving David Dewhurst has been lying about his position on illegal aliens?

The speech is . . . well . . . it is gone. Poof.

Again, the website is taxpayer funded and the document suddenly no longer there directly contradicted Dewhurst’s present statements on immigration in the Senate campaign.

Now, David Dewhurst adamantly claims that he opposes amnesty – even calling the recent Obama plan to grant permits to illegals who came here as children “nothing short of backdoor amnesty by executive fiat and a blatant political ploy.”

But there is one very big problem… He is lying and then covering up the facts that prove he is lying.

Ted Cruz campaign smartly captured the original text of the speech as a PDF.

As most races go, this race will be about money for ads coming down the stretch, and getting out the vote. If you are in Texas – vote, and take your friends to vote for the conservative and best candidate in the race, Ted Cruz.

Anyone that has to use their fathers reputation and values in a election campaign instead of their own hasn’t done much.

Dewhurst is one sleazy SOB. He’s wasting a lot of money on those grainy TV campaign ads.

Thanks to Bigun who pointed me to this portrayal of the Dewhurst tactics.

Sleaze. It would be one thing if Dewhurst at least SAID, hey, I’ve changed my mind since 2007 and here is why. Instead, he makes like the East German Stasi with the Memory Hole.

The internet never forgets.

Somewhat OT: Dewhurst is in his late 60s. While that is still fine for Senate service, I have to wonder: Does this guy NOT KNOW, by dint of age or otherwise, that you can’t “take down” a webpage with any HOPE of actually having the page not be “remembered” by numerous archives? Seriously, in 2012?

Apparently, at least according to the Dewhurst radio spots, the only thing Cruz has ever done wrong is the bogus Chinese company claim. Dewhurst can't seem to come up with anything new to beat Cruz over the head with. Pathetic and a sign of desperation.

What's your beef? He'll put it back if he wins the nomination. OK?

Something I’d like to point out about the Dewhurst claim that Cruz has the same position as the Chinese on currency manipulation. The currency manipulation in China means that Americans pay significantly lower prices for their products.

In the end, any manipulation benefits our economy aside from those companies that that compete with the Chinese; and will hurt China in the end.

Poof!

How convenient.

Why doesn’t Dewhurst run on his record instead of constantly running attack ads against Cruz that are full of lies and half truths?

Ted Cruz: China is increasingly growing as a major worldpower, and it represents a significant threat to the United States politically, militarily, and economically. As China has grown stronger, it has become more assertive militarily and more ruthless in its political oppression internally. At the same time, the massive U.S. debt owned by China makes us dangerously vulnerable to potential economic blackmail. And they have failed to act vigorously to protect U.S. intellectual property rights and to prevent theft. America must engage China as a strategic competitor, fully cognizant that their interests are very different from our own. We must vigorously defend U.S. national security interests, fight to defend U.S. intellectual property, and speak out for freedom and against political oppression. And we should pressure China to cease manipulating its currency to favor their exports over our imports; instead, we should press them to open their markets fully to U.S. farmers and manufacturers.

If I remember correctly, Cruz was against a bill sponsored by Harry Reid, which is not exactly the same as siding with the Chinese.

Here is the Roll Call Vote on S.1619(Currency Exchange Rate Oversight Reform Act) that Cruz opposed. Harry Reid and most of the democrats were for it while 30 GOP Senators opposed it.

If Dewhurst is attacking Cruz, then I guess he would have sided with Dingy Harry on this issue.

Cruz should run an ad...

If Dewhurst were your senator, he would vote with Harry Reid! Why not just elect a Democrat?

(Cornyn and Hutchison both voted nay)

Dewhurst wants everyone to think that he earned his millions by being the smart.

Fact is he was holding natural gas cards back in the 80’s when they were low.

Jimmy Carter rammed through the Co generation law that forced utilities to purchase at “avoided costs” his generation.

Every rate payer in North Texas paid for his wealth.
