Lots of English-speaking Mexicans coming across the Canadian border into New Hampshire.

Oh yeah? Well, how 'bout all of them French speaking Quebecers? How about them?

LOL!!

You know, when Jimmah Carter established the Department of Education, the newly created Cabinet offered government money for bilingual education programs.

So, Governeor Meldrim Thompson of NH, seeing that 20% of the state at the time was French-speaking, applied for funds to establish a bilingual French/English program.

The new Dept of Education said that French/English did not qualify for the bilingual federal grants.

At the time, the number of Spanish-speaking folks in NH constituted less than 1% of the population. Yet, if the NH schools wanted the Federal grants, they would have to create Spanish/English bilingual programs, regardless of how useless they would be.

The NH governor declined, and NH was not eligible for Federal funds until Reagan was elected and removed the requirement.

Of course, what Reagan SHOULD have done was to ELIMINATE the Department of Education altogether and get the FedGov OUT of the government schools.
