Cheney: Romney the 'Only' Choice for Handling Foreign Policy Crisis

WILSON, Wyo. – Former Vice President Dick Cheney told Republican fundraisers Thursday night that Mitt Romney is the "only" man who can make the right decisions in unexpected foreign policy crises. The presumptive 2012 Republican presidential nominee called Cheney a "great American leader" -- and didn't mention former President George W. Bush in a 20-minute speech to a country club reception.

Cheney said serving under four presidents taught him that a surprising international crisis is inevitable. "When I think about the kind of individual I want in the Oval Office in that moment of crisis, who has to make those key decisions, some of them life-and-death decisions, some of them decisions as commander-in-chief, who has the responsibility for sending some of our young men and women into harm's way, that man is Mitt Romney," Cheney said to applause.

This is true if the only other alternative is Obama.

Newt would have been much better than Romney though.

Where is the barf alert. Seriously, I wonder if he even knows the names of all the leaders of the World. Romney should be replaced by a conservative. Why more FREEPERS and other conservatives aren’t demanding someone else. Whatever happened to picking someone at the convention? Was that all just BS talk and now that Romney is the guy everyone wants (apparently) we will settle for him? This is the worst election ever. Yep worse than 2008.

Who do you want? Michelle Bachmann is not going to get the nomination.

Let’s open up the floor and get Jeb Bush, mkay?

Let’s make it our goal to get rid of 0bama, 0bama is the issue.

My drean ticket is Santorum/Bachmann....too bad I am the only a small amount of conservatives in the United States and on Free Republic. Most of Free Republic is made up with “go with the flow” types who vote for whoever they put up for President. Not a great way to live if you ask me. I would HATE to be a follower like most on here.

Of course that cannot be known since Romney has never been ‘tested’ as CIC. But since Cheney says so I guess we’re supposed to trust his crystal ball and accept it as fact.

BTW, Mr. Cheney, how about the impending DOMESTIC crisis? Any thoughts on how - or even if - Mitt will rise to the occasion on that front? Or is he ‘da man’ all the way around?

Cheney should offer the pick Romney’s staff and pick himself again for VP to make sure Romney bombs Iran and Halliburton gets the contracts to rebuild.

Cheney is so good, and he is right about Romney.

“My drean ticket is Santorum/Bachmann”

All well and good. Both would have made fine candidates. Problem is it ain’t going to happen. Time to move on.

The vast majority of FReepers did not vote for Romney. It’s very pompous of you to sound the way you do.

In 1992 my husband and his entire family voted for Ross Perot. I still remind him occasionally that he helped put Bill Clinton in the White House. He has since learned his lesson. Today we both vote our preferred candidate in the primary, but we vote party in the general — whoever that may be. An imperfect Republican is still miles better than a Democrat.
