New Gallup Poll Says Americans Are Tuning TV News Out
PJMedia ^ | July 12, 2012 | Ed Driscoll

At Big Journalism, William Bigelow writes, “According to a new Gallup poll measuring Americans’ confidence in television news, the level is the lowest since the poll was begun in 1993:”

21% of adults expressed a great deal of confidence in television news reporting. No wonder CNN’s ratings are in the toilet.

Gallup tested 16 institutions, including newspapers, and TV news ranked 11th. Newspapers were ranked 10th. There was an interesting divide among those on the left; Democrats were the most confident in television news of all the groups surveyed (now there’s a shock) but postgraduates, who are more generally Democrats, had the least confidence in the TV news industry. This would tend to imply that well-educated people were more distrustful of what was spoon-fed them by the TV media, while those who were lower-income Democrats didn’t question the TV media’s bias toward the left. A very important statistic showed that moderates were much less confident than they were in 2008, which could mean a great deal in the November election because if the moderates view the TV news with suspicion, they will be less likely to vote for Barack Obama.

At Newsbusters, Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center isn’t exactly shocked by this report:

So what could possibly account for this drop? The answer is simple: the networks refuse to Tell the Truth, and the American people are sick and tired of it. Even liberals (19 percent) and moderates (20 percent) have lost faith in TV news, although, not surprisingly, self-identified Democrats have the highest confidence at 34 percent compared to 17 percent for Republicans and 17 percent for Independents. This shouldn’t come as any shock given the media’s torrid love affair with Democrat superhero Barack Obama.

Whether it’s CBS claiming current tax rates will somehow “cost taxpayers,” or CNN scolding a Republican for being a “sore loser” for not embracing ObamaCare, or The New York Times once again blaming Bush on Obama’s behalf, the media have continued to show a complete contempt for the truth. And those are just a few examples from the past couple of weeks.

Dan Rather on Clinton Honesty

Interview With Dan Rather with Bill O'Reilly
The then Chief Media Liar asked to give
his opinion on the Chief Executive Liar.

How do you think it's going ot turn out?

I hardly watch, watched MSM News, never watched it when it was the MSM's 6:30 pm evening showpiece for news. Those who watched, being preached were already converted. So what the MSM had left were the hardcore watchers to whom the MSM has even managed to turning them off. So utterly blatant are they to make sure their political freak gets in.

They might be tuning mainstream network news out, but that does not necessarily mean they’re looking for other forms of media. Are kids today likely to pay attention to different types of news presentations, or are they just uninterested in any hard news? That’s the key question. These articles assume that since old-style network news is suffering huge (deserved) drops in ratings, a lot of people are tuning in to alternative sources. But is that the case, or are many people just tuning out everything? I have my doubts.

I get all of my news from the internet and from talk radio.

I have not watched any network news for several years, including fox or anyone else.

The TV only gets turned on after I first check with tv guide online to see if there are any movies I want to watch...
...or in the extremely rare case when there is a local news issue that I want to know more about (and then I have to filter out the reporter’s slant on the event).

The government in their “wisdom” stopped the TV signals form getting to many places. I don't want to pay money for the cable trash. My computer works better. Take your weak signal ...

I think all ages know how to find the news they care about, and like everyone else younger people are finding it in other places beyond TV and newspapers. Maybe not the news we care about, but they stay current with whatever they care about.

A very important statistic showed that moderates were much less confident than they were in 2008,

The Obama era will and should result in significant harm to most TV networks and the MSM in general. Only the most rabid leftist could fail to notice how in-the-tank for Obama the MSM has been since he was expected be a candidate in 2008.

The MSM richly deserves ever lost consumer and every lost dollar of revenue that results from their acting as leftist propaganda outlets rather than reasonably objective news organizations.

There isn't any 'hard' news on network TV - the nets run stories fed them by dem contacts found in top editors little black books... I don't know anyone who trust network news...

The Sununu/Mitchell exchange laid it out there for all to see; she should be fired for being horrible at hiding her bias (I understand she was following orders, but to follow them so incompetently?).

I heard it re-played on the radio a few times; it was very damaging, and should be re-broadcast several times daily until the election.

What a stupid tool.

I looked up the John Sununu and Andrea Mitchell exchange on You Tube. You're right. Entertainment at its finest.

Fire Mrs. Greenspan? Not in a million years.

Nothing happened after it was shown she faked (creative editing) Romney's supposedly stupid Wawa remarks, did it?

I have not watched ABCNNBCBS since the early 90s. I Tuned out Fox about 5,6 years ago. However I do watch MSNBC every so often. Those guys are funnier than Larry the Cable Guy. When Ed Schultz, Crissy Mathews and Rachel Maddow get their panties in a wad, I just can’t help laughing out loud.
For news? Internet.
