Boehner Dodges Question of Whether He Will Fund or Defund Obamacare
CNS News ^ | 7/13/2012 | Kendra Alleyne

(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) would not say on Thursday whether he intends to permit or not permit funding for Obamacare in whatever legislation the House enacts to keep the government funded past Sept. 30.

The federal fiscal year ends on Sept. 30 and begins on Oct. 1. The continuing resolution under which the federal government is currently being funded expires on Sept. 30. Any money spent after that date by the administration must first be approved in a law passed by both houses of Congress and signed by the president.

If the Republican majority House includes language in the bills to fund the government past Sept. 30 that prohibits the administration from using any money to implement Obamacare, the administration will not be able to implement Obamacare.

The Health and Human Services sterilization-contraception-abortifacient mandate, a regulation issued under Obamacare, will take effect Aug. 1. It will force Catholic individuals, employers and institutions, and others who share the moral views of Catholics on sterilization, contraceptives and abortion, to act against their consciences by purchasing and/or providing insurance that pays for these things.

If the House refuses to give the administration funding to implement Obamacare, the administration will not be able to implement this regulation. If the House approves legislation permitting implementation of Obamacare and this regulation, the administration will be able ti implement the regulation--and force Catholics and Catholic institutions to act against their conscience.

This week a group of House conservatives put together a letter that calls for Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) “not to bring to the House floor in the 112th Congress any legislation that provides or allows funds to implement Obamacare through the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Health and Human Services, or any federal entity.”

At a press conference on Thursday, CNSNews.com asked Speaker Boehner, “Do you intend, as many House conservatives are asking you, to deny funding to Obamacare, which would include defunding the HHS sterilization-contraception-abortifacient mandate?

Boehner said, “You know, I’ve not seen this letter yet, but I’ve read that I’m about to get one. So when I get it, when I get it, then I’ll be able to comment on it.”

As of late yesterday, at least 80 Republicans had signed the letter, including Reps. Michele Bachmann (Minn.), Steve King (Iowa), Jim Jordan (Ohio), Allen West (Fla.), Trent Franks (Ariz.) and Louie Gohmert (Tex.). Reportedly, there are 100 signatures now on the letter.

In an e-mail announcing the letter, Wesley A. Goodman, director of Conservative Coalitions and State Outreach at the House Republican Study Committee, said, “We have the ‘power of the purse.’ A Republican House should not bring any bill to the floor that funds the implementation of Obamacare, and we should take every action to rescind money out the door.”

The letter is still in circulation and could potentially garner more signatures. The House Republican Study Committee said it anticipates sending the letter to Speaker Boehner and Leader Cantor at the end of this week.

Rino Boehner should be able to answer this right off the bat if he is serious about saving America because this is the only way and he doesnt seem to give a damn.

What will it take to get this sleepyhead to wake up before it is too late and is he going to do as Nutsy Pelousy would do? This man can't make up his mind on anything other than a compromise and isnt fit to call himself conservative.

He is more interested in getting a tan or getting on the golf course with obammy. This should be a no brainer and I guess thats where he falls short.

Yet they expect us to all rally around Romney when they won't stick their own necks out because they want to save their own skins.

The day ObamaCare was signed into law I took a lot of flak for suggesting here on FreeRepublic that the GOP establishment was 100% behind most of its provisions -- and that their "opposition" in Congress back in 2010 was nothing more than political posturing.

This is where we'll see just how strong their "opposition" to ObamaCare is. I'm predicting that many, many folks are going to be disappointed with their Republican Congressmen.

If he has not seen the letter and it has not been delivered to him yet........he is right to keep his mouth shut.

After he gets the letter, then get upset, good grief would you comment on a legal matter you had not seen yet?

Where in the hell was Boehner that he couldn’t read the letter? All the other ‘Conservatives’ had read and condemned the thing.

Perhaps he was in the toilet smoking cigarets and working crossword puzzles.

The GOP prefers making money on fundraising as “the loyal opposition” than they do leading America. They agree with most socialist schemes “in theory”, as long as those schemes don’t affect their big donors. There is only one way we’re going to fix this, and it begins with “When in the course of human events...”

So does he need to read the letter to determine his position? It looks like he ignored the question in favor of an imaginary one that he preferred to answer. What leadership. He can’t even figure out his own position on a simple issue.

I'm not a fan of the big crybaby but am willing to give him a pass on this for the moment. The days leading up to the election are now a chess game and - every day the Republicans don't show their hand on certain legislation is a day that the MSM does not join together to misrepresent them on their intentions, especially before the Sunday shows where they would lead with the funding of birth control and abortafacients for women.

However, this better happen if the Pub's know whats good for them.

I'm not defending Boenher, I think he sucks as speaker. But I also know you never comment on anything especially a internal party letter until it is in final form and released to the public. Once he publicly declares his position that letter could change forms before he sees it.

I don't even trust the written word of this gov't, so I would never take a public position on a unreleased letter. That would be dumb.

Should Boenher say he won't fund obama care, hell yes, should he tie himself to a letter that is not in its final form, no, thats like passing a law to find out whats in it!

I think it’s time Boehner replaced that (R) with the (D) he’s fought so hard to earn. Too bad he didn’t fight that hard for the republicans agenda. Crybaby democrat in RINO clothing.

If the Republicans repeal Obamacare, the demoncraps can run on the “fact” that evil Republicans took away free healthcare.

The Dems are big enough liars, and their voters are misinformed and stupid enough to believe it.
