Federal environmental regulators have sharply criticized the state of Iowa for failure to enforce the Clean Water Act and gave the state 60 days to come up with a written plan to fix the problems.
The Environmental Protection Agency said in a report issued Thursday that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has failed to take timely enforcement actions against livestock facilities that violate the Clean Water Act.
The EPA report was done in response to a petition filed in 2007 by three environmental groups The Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, Sierra Club and the Environmental Integrity Project which alleged that Iowa's program fell far short of meeting enforcement requirements of the Clean Water Act.
A spokeswoman for the Iowa Cattlemen's Association defended the DNR, saying it has done an exceptional job of enforcing the Clean Water Act and other federal regulations.
Caitlin Miller said of the initial 31 allegations alleged by the environmental groups, the DNR has already resolved 26. The remaining five issues can be fixed without new laws or major rule changes.
At some point, the EPA will make a final determination on whether to revoke the state's authority to enforce water regulations, which would be unusual.

There's not much anyone can do about pigs and cows ... but YOU jackasses can be neutered
I have a better idea: Let’s “fix” the Clean Water Act - “fix” as in “neuter”.
“At some point, the EPA will make a final determination on whether to revoke the state’s authority to enforce water regulations, which would be unusual.”
And, the 10th Amendment be damned! Liberalism is a mental disease.
And, as long as the conservatives are willing to let them get away with their insanity, we are all destined to live in this “wonderland” of forced equality of outcome, wealth redistribution based on contrived planning, and political ideologies that maintain class segregation to prolong political agendas.
“We need stronger laws, tougher enforcement, and a fully funded DNR,” said Larry Ginter, a farmer from Rhodes and member of an Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement. “It’s time for Gov. Branstad to embrace our agenda and move away from the failed corporate policies of deregulation and privatization he has set us on.”
So let’s call it what it is - a RICO style extortion scheme by enviro groups to force their agenda on the state, which this joker readily admits to. Of course it’s not good enough unless it’s pristine, which never can be achieved, so ultimately their goal is to get rid of all of it and take everything to a human-free state.
It’s also the EPA getting Iowa back for not buying into the Medicare expansion.
Ping.
Big Brother's flying drones will be watching every farm and ranch, EPA thugs will be waiting to pounce on every alleged violator and EPA bureaucrats will be levying fines for every cow and pig fart.

What part of this are people not understanding:
“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.”

Only Communists complained....no Americans!
Iowa’s unemployment rate is at 5.1% according to another thread I read today. This does not fall in line with what Obama is trying to accomplish. Need to get some regulation in that state to break the back of that attempt to move out of the recession.
Thanks for the ping!
