While gun rights advocates challenge restrictions that have kept gun ranges out of the city, efforts to build or expand shooting galleries are moving forward in nearby suburbs, aiming to fill the city's void.

On Monday, a Des Plaines gun range will make its pitch to expand at a new location in one of the northwest suburb's manufacturing districts. And on Tuesday, Lincolnwood officials will hear a longtime village gun shop owner's proposal to build an indoor range just across the Chicago line, near the School District 74 campus.

Lincolnwood residents have launched a petition opposing Shore Galleries' plan in their community. Some village officials, however, say the project could be a shot in the arm for a struggling economy and a safe place for gun owners to practice.

Todays gun ranges in Chitown are it’s streets and apparently the feral yutes couldn’t hit a barn door from the inside ,,, too many wounded and usually they’re the innocent bystanders . Gang members killing one another is 0bama’s population control method it seems ,,,, and we all know by now it’s all Bush’s fault .

Waaaay back in the '70's when I lived in Chicago and it wasn't totally nuts (all guns were legal), 'our' favorite Indoor Range was in Oak Lawn. It was only short ride away from our SW Side neighborhood. They had a nice Pistol and Rifle Range 'downstairs' (in the basement) and their Range prices were reasonable. The ground level was one big Gun Store and 'high class' (can't recall its name but its long gone now.

Now the closest Indoor Range to me is only 20+ minutes away, you can shoot Pistols or Rifles up to 30-06. But their prices suck and they ain't exactly friendly (like you're doing them a favor for being there). And if you bring Two Guns, like a Pistol and Rifle, they Charge you double - for TWO Ranges.
('But sir, I can only fire one gun at a time?' 'SO!')

I used to drive out to Buffalo Range in Ottawa for rifle. But they were shut down by the State. I think they might be open again but the current rules are so over the top I will not go there.
