TV shows can cause odd behavior. "Roots" was aired while I was stationed in Alabama. Shortly thereafter, a co-worker (white) mentioned that his son was accosted at school by kids of "alternate ancestry" demanding to know why he did the things that were depicted. Thankfully, no physical harm was inflicted.
Fortunately, we lived in Corpus Christi at the time, and it just wasn’t a big thing for Mexicans.
