FREDERICKSBURG Police arrested a 27-year-old Fredericksburg man early Sunday after another man, armed with a shotgun, confronted the intruder, who entered the mans home.
The 50-year-old resident was awakened at about 2:30 a.m. by a noise on the first floor on his home in the 400 block of Hanover Street, according to Natatia Bledsoe, public information officer for the Fredericksburg Police Department.
He grabbed his shotgun and checked the house, she said.
Upon checking, he discovered a man walking up the stairs. He told the man to go back downstairs and get on the floor in the hallway, Bledsoe said.
The intruder did so until police arrived.
The intruder was extremely intoxicated, police said, and entered the home through and unsecured front door.
Daniel Veit, the intruder, was arrested for public intoxication and unlawful entry.
He was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $1500 bond.
Geeze, that is one lucky drunk man.
I agree on the shotgun & #4 load as I hate to fix drywall after shooting home invaders. I call the Stanley Steamer guys for the blood clean up. The whole job is usually less than the deductible on my home insurance policy.
Has the homeowner been arrested yet?
In the Commonwealth of Virginia? No way. The only caveat is that if you shoot at someone, you better be sure you hit them. If not, you could face an attempted murder charge. Hitting them ensures that your charge will be reduced to malicious wounding.
