It has just been brought to my attention that because of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties which the US is apparently a signatory to, the UN will consider us bound to any treaty, including the ATT, that Obummer signs.

Well gosh, I've been telling that to FReepers since 2009 (with sources), but I guess I must not be an authority because I'm but lowly FReeper.

Here's a clue: We've been abiding by illegal treaties since the VCLT was signed during the Carter administration, but never ratified. e do it on the "strength of a State Department opinion that considers the binding nature of a signature a matter of "customary international law." IOW, this is PURELY an illegal usurpation of power.

The funny thing is that even Henry Lamb had it wrong, believing that the VCLT had been ratified. It wasn't until NavyVet pointed it out to me that I got that straightened out with Henry.

My point in raising this is that PRESERVING THE CONSTITUTION IS UP TO US because our "leaders," pundits, bloggers, and think tank whizzes, are too lazy, stupid, distracted, or corrupt to make a point of it. Now we need to get our Senators to realize that they MUST get their objections to "unanimous consent" regarding consideration of these treaties ON RECORD lest they be ratified by voice vote in the dark of night.

It's happened before.

Vienna Convention on the Law of TreatiesIs the United States a party to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties?
No. The United States signed the treaty on April 24, 1970. The U.S. Senate has not given its advice and consent to the treaty. The United States considers many of the provisions of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties to constitute customary international law on the law of treaties.
