It means you need to post a video that shows mass theft etc. Posting this one does not help your thesis. I am well aware of what is happening in some parts of the country. It seems you did not watch the video. I suggest you watch it,compare it to others and then see what you think. Don't take someones word for it. BTW I have seen some of the videos from mobs out of control. MY only point was this wasn't one.

Accompanying news report from news4jax.com:

However, the Wal-Mart off Lem Turner Road in Jacksonville fell victim to a flash robbery when more than 300 people entered the store and destroyed the security system as well as some merchandise.

According to the police report, the group destroyed an electronic anti-shop lifting security scanner that costs about $1,500. The police report also stated the massive crowd could have arrived at the store after a party that was broken up on Sampson Road.

YouTube video showed the teens throwing food and merchandise around the store.

I STAND CORRECTED. The video did not convey that in my opinion. Thanks for the link to the news story.

Disclaimer: this is not meant to be a "flaming" post! LOL.

prof.h.mandingo: "I was trained in a time when people were a little more rational and I guess I use that to filter what is going on. If you act like you are scared, guess what? Your fears come true. You cannot show you are intimidated. The video in my opinion just showed a crap load of kids acting goofy which is what kids do. If I had seen anything else I assure you I would feel like some posters do."

I think that having a rational and calm point of view is important, whether you are in the situation or just watching the video. However, in my opinion, your occupation, training, and experience are affecting your perspective. This is good in some ways, but limits your POV in some ways.

Here is an excerpt from a local news channel report on the same event:

"... the Wal-Mart off Lem Turner Road in Jacksonville fell victim to a flash robbery when more than 300 people entered the store and destroyed the security system as well as some merchandise. According to the police report, the group destroyed an electronic anti-shop lifting security scanner that costs about $1,500. The police report also stated the massive crowd could have arrived at the store after a party that was broken up on Sampson Road. YouTube video showed the teens throwing food and merchandise around the store. Channel 4's Crime Analyst Ken Jefferson said any sort of crime where there's hundreds of people involved is a dangerous situation: 'You've got a large number of people going and coming at the same time they are throwing produce,' said Jefferson. 'They are stealing items, they are all over the store. You can imagine how fearful the customers were who were in there at that particular time.' Police did not make any arrests after the mob of people took over the store. If caught, these teens could face criminal charges."

I know I can imagine being in the store and having trouble staying calm and rational. But what I meant above was that as a trained professional, you may have trouble relating to that because you would be able to stay calm and rational.

By the way, I would have trouble with that crowd or a similar one no matter their skin color, attire, or drug of choice (or the era in which I am living). So the comparison to toga parties does not seem to be particular fitting to me.

Thanks Papa and Chuck. Seems everybody else is busy trying to excuse the “yutes” behavior.

Even armed and with a CCW permit, you can't carry enough ammo to protect yourself.

Wanna bet :o)

Thanks also for the idea of the training. I didn't really think about that as an issue. Try crowd control at Mardi Gras.
NOPD for all its faults are the absolute best. We were called in from time to time and I have to admit NOPD did a good job. Some of our guys (state LEO’s) were a little too “hard ass” to be effective in that situation.

You have your experience, I have mine.

I'm sure yours works well to help you navigate moddern life. So does mine.

Looks like the Chess Club blowing off a little steam got out of hand. Maybe the club president can identify the miscreant who ruined an afternoon of innocent fun for the rest of those achievers and solid citizens.

Half of them are recording the event on their $500 smartphones. They must have good jobs.

When I was a pledge, I could have sworn the “T” in our fraternity letters stood for “theft.” :o)

Nope, sorry. We didn’t have a chapter on our campus. The worst we had were the “jock” houses.

One lost it’s charter for spraying oven cleaner on it’s pledges, and the other lost it for multiple rapes of drunken party guests.

Interestingly enough, those were two of only three fraternities that had houses provided by the University and were eligible for “university housing” if you were a member.

IMO, this is black people showing what they can do, showing the power they have to intimidate and get what they want. It does not take much for this to escalate to violence against people, especially whites, and it does, frequently.

I agree. All you really need is one bullet. Shoot one moron and point your weapon at anybody else who still shows interest. The store would be cleared of “gangstas” in about 10 seconds.
