Ted Cruz Outraises David Dewhurst. Dewhurst Reponds By Accusing Cruz of Supporting Pedophiles
Redstate ^ | 7/17/2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 07/17/2012 6:56:52 AM PDT by Qbert

I have always had a lot of respect for the guys who are running David Dewhurst’s campaign, but I’m starting to see now why Rick Perry had no chance of getting elected President. The same team running Dewhurst’s campaign ran Perry’s Presidential campaign and has stooped to what I thought would be an impossible low.

Contra the headline at CNN.com, David Dewhurst actually raised less money than Ted Cruz. Dewhurst had to pump over $4 million into his campaign to save face and win the media spin that he outpaced Cruz. In fact, Cruz has raised $1.7 million and Dewhurst raised $1.5 million.

So now Dewhurst’s campaign team is accusing Ted Cruz of supporting pedophiles, going so far as to try to tie him to Jerry Sandusky.

Not. Kidding. The scurrilous charge stems from Ted Cruz’s law firm taking on the appeal of a developer in Pennsylvania who had a dispute with an insurance company and had lost in district court. Ted Cruz got the case.

The company was in Pennsylvania and the client was involved in litigation related to a scandal that involved bribing judges to steer juvenile delinquents to the private jail facility his company built. He had previously pleaded guilty to failing to report a felony to the authorities. Cruz had nothing to do with the criminal case or the related civil litigation at all.

Moreso, Cruz’s client seemingly had nothing to do with the scandal involving the kids either. His crime was about not telling the IRS the judges involved had mischaracterized their income. In other words, as Ted Cruz said, his client’s actual victim in the case was the IRS, not kids.

That hasn’t stopped David Dewhurst. David Dewhurst is out with an highlighting Ted Cruz + Pennsylvania + kids involved and strongly implying that Ted Cruz supported a pedophile.

He’s using Cruz’s remarks about the criminal case being a tax case and not a case about kids against Cruz to imply Cruz is ignoring victimized children.

It’s ludicrous and it is false. But that’s not stopping David Dewhurst from running with it.

In a campaign email sent late yesterday by Megan Hanson, the Dewhurst campaign wrote,

Ted Cruz was fined the maximum penalty by the U.S. Senate Ethics Commission for breaking the law and failing to submit his Personal Financial Disclosure. Now, Texans are learning what Cruz was hiding. Ted Cruz is representing Robert Mericle, a child-exploiting, judge-bribing felon of the infamous “Kids for Cash” scandal.

The fine was for failing to timely file his disclosures. He missed a deadline. That’s all.

The rest? It’s akin to saying David Dewhurst is a kid toucher because he kissed a baby on the campaign trail. In other words, it is desperate nonsense.

It also is a strong indicator, coupled with Cruz outpacing Dewhurst in fundraising, that Dewhurst really does believe he is losing the race.

Good.

Dewhurst is running the sleaziest campaign I’ve seen since Obama ran for Senate.

The saddest part of all of this is that, just a few weeks ago, there were people ON THIS SITE telling us how wonderful Dewhurst was. They were really putting their reputations at risk.

If Dewhurst is so wonderful, why is he allowing his campaign to go to these levels? Why can’t he just accept that 2012 is just not his year? Why doesn’t he, instead, stay in the State Senate and become a conservative (or, at least, start acting like one), and then maybe try again in the future?

Oh, never mind, those questions are answered in the article - he’s linked with Governor Perry.

Ngat is one of those Dewhurst supporters who has been pushing attacks against Cruz and pushing the line that GOP-e candidate Dewhurst is the “real conservative in this race.” Wonder if he’ll defend Dewhurst for this sleazy, false attack.

“Wonder if he’ll defend Dewhurst for this sleazy, false attack.”

I hope so. When the race was an argument over who could be trusted as a conservative, then both sides should make their point. But when the losing candidate goes off the deep end, it’s time to end the argument.

This race looks a LOT like Florida in 2010...so I wouldn’t be surprised if Dewhurst goes Third Party, at some point soon, just as Charlie Crist did when he was outed. He’s starting to show those signs.

He should have gotten the message at the Convention in Ft. Worth when Governor Perry ended a great speech stumping for Dewhurst and got booed for it.

I was embarrassed over the booing, but Dewhurst has made this much worse than it would have otherwise been. He is toast.

Lets not forget TX is the home of Patty Murray.

I thought Patty Murray was from Washington state.

Are you thinking of Kay Bailey Hutchison?

Don’t know...good point. It took me a minute to remember that term. If that’s the case, then maybe Dewhurst simply wants to get Cruz weakened enough so that some other RINO can step in as Third Party - especially because (just like Florida) the Dems are essentially not running anyone.

As a Texan, I'm ashamed to admit it, but 556x45 from Tennessee is correct about Texas. Washington State's Patty Murray is one hell of a Texas Chess player/beater. Also, from Texas, Charles "chuckySchmucky" Schumer and Barbara Boxer....bwaaaahaaaaa!

I'm betting you wish upon Texas, Al Gore as well Mr. Tennessee?

This is an impressive level of both desperation and arrogance.

I can imagine Dewhurst staffers sitting around trying to think of things they can use to attack him with.

(claps hands) “Remember, people. Cruz’s supporters are ignorant Tea Party rabble you would never see at your country club, so whatever we come up with has to offend the Bible thumping, BBQ, NASCAR and gun nut crowd.”

“We can’t really attack him for being a Mexican, because we would lose the Tex-Mex vote.”

“We tried calling him an OU supporter, but nobody believes that. Same with him hating western music, being rude to women, and being a secret Muslim New Yorker. Just didn’t fly.”

“The focus group actually liked him better when we told them he’d been abducted by space aliens.”

“How about communists and pedophiles?”

“Well, the Tea Party vouches for him not being a commie, but if we say he’s a pedo, he’ll sue our buns off. So why don’t we sort of say that he sort of supports them, in some sort of roundabout way that won’t get us in trouble?”
