CBS Incorrectly Hints Romney Responsible for U.S. Olympic Uniforms' Outsourcing in 2002

In an online article on Tuesday, CBS's Lucy Madison all but pointed the finger at Mitt Romney for the decision to produce the uniforms of the 2002 U.S. Winter Olympic team in Burma. Madison cited left-wing website The Huffington Post as a main source: "In 2002, when Romney was at the helm of the Salt Lake City Olympics, the outfits were produced in Burma, as the Huffington Post pointed out last night."

However, the network's own reporting on the 2012 uniform controversy noted how the U.S. Olympic Committee makes the decision on the uniforms. Romney didn't lead the USOC over a decade ago, but rather the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the games. The president of the USOC at that time was Sandra "Sandy" Baldwin, who was forced to resign later in 2002, according to a CNN report.

The CBSNews.com political reporter led her misleadingly titled report, "At Romney-helmed games, Olympic uniforms outsourced to Burma," by highlighting that "amid uproar over news that this year's U.S. Olympic opening ceremony uniforms were made in China, Mitt Romney remained noticeably mum on the issue." After quoting from the former Massachusetts governor, who declined to comment on the current uniform controversy, Madison outlined how Ralph Lauren outsourced the production of the 2008 and 2010 U.S. Olympic uniforms before making her Huffington Post reference.

Incorrectly? How about committed libel?

Meh, not libel of a public figure (said the lawyer). But that’s minor.

I don’t think many of you truly appreciate what the MSM is going to do to Romney. This is just the top of a VERY large iceberg. His nomination is such a disaster that I sometimes wonder if the GOP elite are hired by the DNC. Romney is the Titanic on steroids.

Who specifically outsourced this year’s Olympic uniforms to China?

2012 and the scandal broke but no one has been named outright.

The DNC shared their “research” files this election.

Collusion. We’ve seen it between the DNC and MSM for the past several election cycles. Whether it was the outing of 2 gay Republicans as evidence of a “culture of corruption that rises to the top ranks of the GOP” in 2006 (to turn off Christian conservative voters) or any of a plethora of other examples...

History always repeats itself. All they had to do was look at what they did to Sarah and her family in 2008. If any of the male candidates thought it wouldn’t happen to them because they are guys, they are woefully ignorant.

This was telegraphed back in 2011. The MSM, DNC and Obama administration all said that Romney would be the easiest candidate to beat. That’s who they wanted, that’s who they got.

And the RINOS went along with it because in the end, they make money off of it and keep their place at the Washington-New York media elite social circle.

Sorry folks but this outsourcing of the uniforms in 2012 is a non issue and has been for almost a decade. The textile and apparel manufacturing infrastructure in this country has been gutted by globalization. As much as I would like to give the program to US companies it would be extremely difficult and costly to pull it off, if it could be done at all domestically. What is left of the industry is not oriented to this type of production. Look at the country of origin labels in the clothes you wear. Look at the labels in any athletic apparel

The truth is this nation does not have the ability to produce the clothing for its people domestically. The Bush 1 and Clinton administrations made the decision to give up the US textile industry to foreign nations in the name of free trade and to the applause of the retail community. From a national security and middle class employment perspective it was a stupid move. However the people who lost their jobs were nonunion working stiffs in the south for whom there were no equivalent replacement jobs. In rural North and South Carolina counties we have decaying former textile and apparel factories littering the countryside, chronically high unemployment , and thousands of idle meth addicted young people as a consequence of our enlightened trade policies. Once proud, hard working middle class communities are now dependent on the government safety net. I wish I could see what we gained from opening our markets to mercantilist nations. Whatever the benefit I wonder if it has been weighed against the cost of shifting a region’s culture from strong self reliance to dependency.

If this nation ever gets into a protracted war, and can’t bring in containers of cheap clothing from China, we’ll all be wearing rags in 2 years. Get over the outsourcing of Olympic uniforms and enjoy the cheap foreign clothing the free trade movement brought you.

Cheap clothing? Oh you noticed the prices didn’t go down but the quality did when the foreign apparel flooded the market? Now that’s another story. Maybe some other time.

In 2002 the US uniforms were made by Roots a Canadian company ...

They may have had them made in Burma...

I guess this is called “saving the Olympics”

This entire kerfuffle about the stupid looking uniforms is to get in a dig at Romney.

The LSM has lost a lot of credibility. Once lost it is almost impossible to get it back.
When they let things like this get through, they lose even more.

Wicked! FINALLY everything isn’t Bush’s fault any longer. Now everything is Romney’s fault. And they call it ‘progress’. I know everyone has noticed how NOTHING is EVER Obozo’s fault while he’s spewing his massive doses of hope’n’change.

Counting the days.

Are you blaming romney? Did you not read the article? He was in charge of the event organizing committee. He had nothing to do with the US Opympic team.

They got it wrong when they blammed Romney. It was Bush’s fault, everyone knows that.

All of the clothes I own were probably made in the Far East. I’d say 95 percent of American’s clothes were made there. Why then should we be upset if our Olympic uniforms were made in China? Is the Olympic Committee any less patriotic than the rest of us? I say none of us are unpatriotic.

Saw it first hand last night.
Brian Williams railing on about Mitt’s refusal to make his tax returns public and ‘transparency’.
Not one word about Zer0’s history. Where born BC, school transcripts, etc.
Soooo obvious.
