Police say she fired a warning shot into the ceiling startling the burglar and causing him to take off.

The a$$hole was lucky she didn't fire her warning shot into his torso. OTO She's probably saved herself a lot of police and prosecutorial harassment by putting a round into her ceiling (hopefully there were no rooms above) rather than into him.
