(CBS News) Chris Christie is poised to deliver the Republican convention's keynote address in Tampa next month, some GOP leaders leaked Wednesday morning - a report which, if true, would effectively wipe the New Jersey governor from shortlists speculating Mitt Romney's VP pick.
One top party activist told the New York Post that Christie will speak Tuesday night of the convention, Aug. 28. "They're saying he's the keynoter," the source said.

I actually like the choice. For Keynote Speaker. After that, he can go back to New Jersey and keep on governing.
Palin is not on the speaking list...must be on the VP list.....;~)
I wouldn’t care that he was a funny looking fat ass if he were conservative. Looks don’t have much bearing on how I judge politicians.
I agree. Christie is a fiery speaker; I’d expect a lot of red meat. And he’s a very successful Republican governor of a large state.
Probably some others known and unknown who could do a good job of keynote also.
Would have liked to see Rubio here...it would have been a proper role for a rising star in his home state. Also, would have sent a solid conservative Hispanic to the top of the headlines. Other than his immigration flop, he’s among our best on the issues.
Might mean Rubio is still in the running for VP. Might mean they are back benching conservatives in favor of rockefeller, northeastern, big tent republicans.We’ll see.
Seems the selection of Christie as a keynote speaker indicates the Romney campaign and the platform is to be a very, very moderate campaign.
Rubio no executive experience. He has a long way to go before he should be considered a “rising star”.
Only if his speech is about gun grabbing and homosexuality. I seriously doubt Christie will be speaking about his leftist positions.

My socialiist sister said last year that she kind of liked Chris Christie. She hates Romney with a passion though, so she probably won't watch or listen to the GOP convention speeches. However, I figure she represents a portion of the people who just might vote The Won out of office if a strong alternative is presented. They may not listen to whitebread Romney, but are already familiar with tough guy Christie and can't help but respect the fact that he stands up for what he believes.
It seems to me a good idea to have Christie give the keynote speech. He's known as a tough guy who doesn't take any guff. We all whine about the GOP having no spine and moan about Boehner being a crybaby, then proceed to diss Chris instead of recognizing anything positive he has to offer. It is wise to use his strengths to help win the election.
I've been re-reading "A Warning to The West" by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. In one speech, says:

Well, Rubio’s open, unapolgetic racism on that issue is a HUGE flop.
Illegal invasion (it is by definition most definitely NOT “immigration”), on its current trajectory, will end up destroying this country.
Well, CCC isn’t the Veep choice then. Yawn.

You are correct. But the RNC is offering little to nothing to arouse me from my slumber. Our only chance to restore America to the greatness she once had is far from political.
I’ve given up hope on any politician being able to turn this mess around.

If you hear the word “hollering” and think of pig-calling — you know, a “Suuu-eeee!” of the “Hee Haw” variety — you ain’t heard nothing yet.
It turns out there’s a whole lot more to hollering than bringing in the pigs. There are good morning hollers, hollers to keep a work rhythm going, and hollers used by men driving logs down a river. There are courting hollers, hollered versions of hymns, and hollers that tell your neighbors you’re getting ready to slaughter hogs.
Hollering in all its glory is a homegrown art form of the rural South, and it’s being kept alive through a 35-year-old contest in Spivey’s Corner. You can hear it for yourself at this year’s edition on June 21.
Back in the 1970s, H.H. Oliver, an early champion, explained on tape how the hollering tradition was used by farm families. “When you had trouble, you had to get out and holler. I remember one time that there was a child that fell out of the porch and cut its head open and the lady got out and hollered.” Oliver demonstrated by hollering three times, a loud, primal two-note call that would chill any red-blooded creature to the bone.
He went on, “And my mama said, ‘Well, we’d better go down and see what’s the matter at Susan’s.’ So we tore out down there and the little fellow that fell out of the porch and cut his head open, my mother took some cobwebs and wiped on his face, and after a while he stopped bleeding. That’s what they call a distress holler.
There’s a difference between hollering and calling people names in public. A person who calls someone names in front of an audience is abusive and a bully. I refuse to enable that behavior.
