I'm glad that he was given over a million dollars in compensation - but, I think it should have been over 5.

Law enforcement didn’t know how to store DNA back in the ‘80’s to preserve it for 30 years. Even if this was the accused’s own blood cells, they would have deteriorated so much that they would yield a negative result now.
We have to store DNA at -70 degrees C (in liquid nitrogen) just to keep it for a decade or two.
They haven’t proven this man’s innocence.
