Romney Defends Obama at Ohio Town Hall

(BOWLING GREEN, Ohio) -- Back in May, Mitt Romney was criticized for not immediately rebuking a woman at a town hall who said President Obama “should be tried for treason” with democrats saying he stood “silently” during attacks on the president.

But Wednesday, during a town hall in the battleground state of Ohio, Romney didn’t miss a beat when one woman referred to Obama as a job-killing “monster.”

The woman, who did not identify herself to the crowd more than saying she is an “angry mom,” was telling Romney about her son’s struggling business and said, “He’s had to lay off people and he may have to close some stores and it’s all because of what this monster has done to this country.”

As the crowd laughed and began to applause, Romney jumped in, “That’s not a term I would use.”

Romney later added that the woman had “every right to be angry.”

I think Romney chose not to repeat the “monster” label out of caution not to appear ‘racist’. I see that as prudence and maintaining a level of decorum as a would be President. Would Reagan call another President a “monster”? Doubtful. “Satan” or “The Anti-Christ” would be more fitting.

“but is this an example of the intellectual honesty of conservatives?”

For many on this site, yes it is. The absurdity of some of the anti Romney vitriol on threads like this is mind boggling. People can choose not to vote for him of course. That is their right. And there are a lot of things to legitimately disagree with him about but stuff like this is just ridiculous.

“Romney was my last choice (maybe 2nd last to LRon) in the primary, but is this an example of the intellectual honesty of conservatives”

I totally agree with you.

Oh yeah! Boy, this is that tough no-holds-barred Mittens that we've heard so much about these last 48 hours or so.

You go get’em, Mitty Milquetoast! What a fighter!

Rick Santorum: “With Santorum’s endorsement, Romney . . .”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/post/rick-santorum-endorses-mitt-romney/2012/05/07/gIQAOglU9T_blog.html

Newt Gingrich: “He also urged conservatives to rally behind Romney as a better alternative than Obama.”

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Latest-News-Wires/2012/0502/Gingrich-exits-race-endorses-Romney

Michelle Bachman: “I’m honored to announce that today, I am endorsing Governor Mitt Romney for President of the United States, a man who will preserve the American dream of prosperity and liberty,” she said in a statement released this afternoon. “On November 6th, the only option is Mitt Romney for President.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/michele-bachmann-to-endorse-mitt-romney/2012/05/03/gIQABrSwyT_blog.html

Herman Cain: “We as conservatives know that in order to win, we have got to rally around our nominee,” Cain said. “It is clear that Governor Mitt Romney is going to be our nominee, so I wanted to formally endorse him today.”

Rick Perry: “Today I join the many conservative Republicans across the nation in endorsing Mitt Romney for president and pledge to him, my constituents and the Republican Party than I will continue to work hard to help defeat President Obama,” Perry said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Other notables:

Sarah Palin: Anyone but Obama. “There is too much bickering in the GOP. We must be focused on the main thing: Replace Barack Obama in 2012.”

http://video.foxnews.com/v/1485700048001/palin-anybody-but-obama/

Chris Christie: Christie, at a news conference in Hanover, N.H., described the endorsement as an “easy decision.” He cited Romney’s experience in the private and public sectors, saying he “brings the best of both” to the job.
“America cannot survive another four years of Barack Obama, and Mitt Romney’s the man we need to lead America and we need him now,” Christie said.

Tom Coburn, Senator from Oklahoma who was voted by Conservative.org as 100% conservative: “I’m proud to support Romney because he is a leader,” continued Coburn. “What Romney has done in his 25 years in the private sector is precisely what we need a president to do in Washington.”

If you want to denigrate the GOP choice—okay—but you also need to denigrate the names listed above.

Remember, loose lips sink ships. Some of you are doing more to get Obama elected than to advance a conservative cause. As Bob Newhart would say, “STOP IT.”

Repeat of Mccain. Romney plays defense against the propaganda. Makes him look weak.

When he went and did a speech in front of Solynda, I thought maybe he was going to start and lead the message. It didn't last.

Lady: “Obama a Job killing monster”

Romney: “That’s not a term I would use.”

He has such good timing.

McCain said they can’t call him: Barack Hussein Obama....no husseins allowed.

I smell the McCain Campaign.

A lot of people here have fallen into a pack mentality. It’s cool to ridicule and call Romney every name under the sun. It makes them one of the cool kids. I honestly don’t know what the agenda is but this may be the most important election we’ve ever faced and they are playing a very dangerous game.

That’s why the Mittens will lose in 2012. Dems bash the opponent while the GOP utters in polite disagreement.

You are mistaken.
The criticisms are about ... Mr. RomneyCARE’s behavior.

It appears that you don’t like criticism of YOUR Master,
the author of ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE/DeathPANELS
and GOPeBackstabbing. But these are valid criticism
because, frankly, there is not an iota of conservatism.

And YOU don’t like the criticism that YOUR Master
incredibly actually defends Obama (the Tyrant) repeatedly,
and that he is so weak that Romney needs his wife
to defend himself. [it does not look good, actually].

Food for thought:
If only Obama was a conservative, Mr. RomneyCARE
would be all over him like a boa constrictor on a rat.
