Recall Mercador's murder of Leon Trotsky, he was sent abroad in 1938 as part of a flood of communist agents into the Americas (koinkydink with the Spanish Civil War).

I"d imagine similar murders were carried out in Hawaii to exterminate any of the old Menshivists or Trotskyites hanging around in the local union movements, or maybe just to get rid of the inconvenient IWW (Wobblies).

So, official union history in Hawaii starts in 1935 with the arrival of Soviet agents.

Still a bunch of commies if you ask me ~ and that would date back to the 1920s easily, but I've seen older references ~ maybe the Wobblies were there. They were a bunch of commies.

Re: Recall Mercador’s murder of Leon Trotsky

I’m sorry but you are way ahead of me. My communism study began and ended with Hammett/Hellman biographies and McCarthy hearings. Now you can see why this Hawaii/Seattle dock infiltration by Commies was so “new” to me.

But still your mention of above murder of Trotsky interest me and I’ll soon check it out. thanks.

History major are you?
