Now the undocumented single mom faces possible deportation for peddling her chicken, pork and chili cheese tamales. Reyes was arrested for trespassing June 28 after the store's security guard and Sacramento County sheriff's deputies said they repeatedly told her to take her tamales elsewhere. Reyes spent 12 days in the Sacramento County jail until the trespass charge was dropped, said her lawyer, Julia Vera, and her children – Cesar Cuesta, 10, and Monserrat Cuesta, 7 – were put in foster care during that time.

I used to feel sorry for people like this. "They're just trying to feed their family", "why punish the children", etc etc etc, take a rationalization and spin it however you'd like...
Then, I had an epiphany.
If *I* committed a felony of any sort, the judge would throw the book at me. And to heck with whether or not I had kids, and if my family would suffer any hardship. Incredibly sympathetic articles like this would NOT be written about my plight, and community activists would not use pictures of me and (more likely) my kids to foment trouble.
"Too bad, WBill. Guess you should have obeyed the law.", or somesuch, would be the general opinion.
So....to people like Ms Reyes (no mention of a "Mr.", at least not in the excerpt), I am generally without sympathy anymore.
Tens of millions of legal and illegal immigrants and minorities (and smaller number of whites) earn lots of off the books cash money while sucking off our social welfare system. Paying taxes is for suckers and white people, with lots of overlap there.

If she does face deportation it is for breaking our immigration laws by entering the US illegally and remaining here illegally.
